@KurtMuller20 @Kentuckyweather Because it had been 54 years since we'd attempted anything outside of low Earth orbit and were using all new platforms (capsule, launch vehicle, distance/time in space). We couldn't just use a Saturn 5 like Apollo did. The companies that designed and built them are long gone.

@LexAfficial @Kentuckyweather Because NASA cares about launch windows, not superstitious dates. The first launch window after the couple of delays fell on April 1st. You don't just launch willy nilly. The Earth and Moon needed to be in the proper alignment.
