Kenya is committed to deepening bilateral trade ties with key partners to boost trade and investment.
Today, Kenya’s High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Ekitela Moru met with the Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam to discuss ways of strengthening trade ties between Kenya and Malaysia and unlocking new areas of cooperation.
Trade between the two countries has recorded a steady increase, with total flows reaching USD 1.46 billion in 2025. However, the trade balance continues to favour Malaysia.
The High Commissioner emphasized the need for Kenya to enhance value addition and diversify its exports in order to improve competitiveness and reduce the trade deficit.
The meeting proposed the establishment of a formal trade framework including a Joint Trade Committee to provide a structured mechanism for advancing bilateral trade.
The Principal Secretary underscored the importance of fostering closer collaboration between the private sectors of both countries through a Kenya–Malaysia Business Forum to explore opportunities for mutual growth in trade and investment.
