While many news reports focus on NAPLAN, there are some of us educators who are working exclusively with the students who do not feature in this test- ‘exempt’. It’s just business as usual for us, knowing that we can’t show our students’ improvements against a national test.

Marty Sheargold’s comments about the Matildas were disgraceful. But what I’m struggling with? The silence. And the laughter. This is how it happens. A bloke makes a disrespectful comment, and everyone around him lets it slide. It’s said behind closed doors, laughed off, tolerated. That can’t happen anymore. The Matildas deserve better. Women in sport deserve better. Hell, women everywhere deserve better. If you wouldn’t cop it in public, don’t accept it in private. It’s not about being ‘soft’ or ‘PC’ - it’s about respect. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. Time to be better.

@songdo101 The gun buy back scheme is the biggest thing I have approved of from the LNP… rest of it has been pretty forgettable

Can anyone name one thing that the LNP have done for the average Australian? I'll wait.

@Graemeinnes Bill Shorten had the original vision but when it went wrong, he left. That’s not a champion. Don’t grandstand him like you did with yourself with the failed cinema captioning debacle where you ignored the community’s wishes.

Minister Bill Shorten gives his valedictory address in Parliament today. He has been a champion for the NDIS. His long-standing commitment to people with disabilities has been the hallmark of his parliamentary career. Thanks Bill, we have appreciated your tireless efforts.

@Mehubbyandkids @SGInterpreting It reflects on you. Your peers measure you on what they hear and as a deaf person, you cannot hear if the terp is representing you accurately or appropriately. It’s a vulnerable and powerless place to be.

@KerridgeMarnie @SGInterpreting I was presenting at a conference and gave my talk to the interpreter in advance. They turned up and straight up told me to my face that they hadn't read it! That affects my credibility. I want my terp to be prepared so that they do their very best job.

I am posting this yet again. When Interpreters ask for prep we are not being arsed we are trying to make you look good. It is not us being divas. Second if we ask for comfort monitor or speakers weeks in advance it's bec we need them.

@SGInterpreting It was a little soul destroying and trust breaking. We already have to work twice as hard in a hearing world and the lack of preparation by the terp impacts ME, not them. So prep is important, and so is using it!

@SGInterpreting I gave prep material to a terp for a work conference I was presenting at. Arrived and when it was time for me to present she gave the voicing to the tandem last minute terp who wasn’t able to prep. My presentation was not delivered in a way that matched my professional ability.

What's been your most awful experience in a store? Tell me, please, so it's not just me Weird, rude staff? Shitty fellow customers? Getting accidentally locked in? Mine was probably yesterday, but I've been in so many shitful shops, maybe my memory's forcing me to forget them

@Mr_Rablin Possibly no research BUT as a Deaf individual, these are an accessible way for me to see other people’s opinions and responses. You miss a lot when you’re deaf and the opportunity to grow and learn by listening to others. This is one way.

I'm pretty sure I can say this with no exceptions. I've never gotten value out of a required discussion board post-and-comment activity for an online class. Genuinely, is there research to support this approach?

Based on surface level NAPLAN results as of 2023: - @SerpentinePS results average (likely future case study) - Brandon Park above average since 2015 (not sure when they started great instruction) - @tempyheightsps looks best. Great growth but not sure when/what changes were made.

Can anyone point to a school that’s has implemented science of learning practices (explicit and direct instruction, structured synthetic phonics, Rosenshine principles etc.) and its success can be directly seen in the data, including NAPLAN data. I need a case study!
