Can anyone recommend me their favourite historical novels set in the 18th century? (Not written in the 18th century).

I've done a long & detailed thread responding to some of this, trying to give some background, to offer something more than the 'students are incapable of reading big books any more!' view.

Apparently universities are having to teach English literature students how to concentrate for long enough to read lengthy novels. I have to ask, what makes a person who's incapable of reading long novels decide that studying literature at degree level is for them?

@AkiSchilz How to construct or join a community in which books are discussed and readings held, including small press and seff-published works. Poetry does this well, prose not so much.

@NoreenMasud I would imagine that they are captive-bred, and that preparation for the releases has been going on for years. The legal populations come from imported European animals.
