I love teaching. When I first started IT. I created my YouTube channel to teach other people what I learn at work. I wanted to provide easy straightforward information that will help people understand IT. I eventually got hired to teach at a few places like TechSkills Institute EDTECH4D - JOBSKILLSHARE and a community college. Really enjoy teaching because I get to see a student grow and work IT. Seeing someone win and transition over to IT is a win for me. That means that the student is learning something. I don't like use PowerPoint slides and spending my whole day talking to students without any student participation. You need to be creative when it comes to teaching. Otherwise students will find you boring. That was the issue I had at college. It's difficult to teach when the student doesn't find the information fun or interactive. Years later, I still love teaching. I'm currently working on a course and I will be updating my Udemy course. Happy Tuesday! When I first started IT. I went on reddit to ask for help on how to get started in IT. A lot of people talked bad about comptia certs. Nothing but negative comments. I decided to ignore them and ask my friends about IT that already worked in the field. I spend countless hours playing counter strike source. That is the only game that I have 14,000 hours of gameplay. I really loved CSS and playing on my old windows xp Vaio machine. I talked to my veteran buddies on ventrilo about IT. They literally stand down with me and gave a clearer picture on different IT roles and certifications. Some of them worked for the department of defense. Some were on disability from the war. I learned a lot from them. I started watching videos on professor messer and Mike Meyers and started studying my comptia a+. Took me a few tries but I managed to get that certification. I failed the exam twice but my CSS friends and family kept me motivated to keep going. I eventually got hands on experience using virtual machines and upgrading machines to windows 7 at the school I went to study my comptia a+. Eventually, I landed a job as a field technician for the department of education. My advice for new folks is try to get your foot in the door. This can be anything from volunteering or doing an internship. Always remember you learn the fundamentals before you go to advanced topics. Everyone starts at zero. Just remember that! Build a portfolio on a medium website to showcase your experience. Everyone path in IT is different. I started out in fast food and did 12 years in fast food. I was one of the first youngest managers for Qdoba and became the employee of the month for the best customer service. One of the best things I learned is to greet every customer that enters the restaurant. You never know who's having a bad day. Sometimes I would give my employee comp meal to customers who can't afford paying for food. Kindness goes a long way. After working fast food for severally years. I wanted to transition over into IT. I studied the comptia a+ and failed my exam twice in a row. I didn't think tech was for me. In the end, I didn't give up because I had the family and friends support. Everyone wanted me to win. When you surround yourself with people that want you to win. You can pretty much accomplish anything. My family became my motivation. I landed my first job working for a financial firm. Imagine being one of the first people in your family to finished high school and getting a job working in a corporate job. My parents worked in sewing factory. Never forget your roots. Always stay humble and be true to yourself. Now I work cybersecurity and I go to different conferences to talk. I share my story on how I started from zero coming fast food. Anything is possible. You just need to have faith and work hard. When you work hard and do the right things. Everything comes together and it will work out in the end. Happy Sunday! A lot of people talk about having a job in IT or Cybersecurity but don't talk about the struggles in getting their first job. Getting a job in IT is a grind. You will literally spend countless hours of learning new skills in IT and studying certifications. It can take a lot of time just to land that first job. It can be mentally draining. You can spend a full day applying for jobs and yet you get no interviews. This can be very discouraging. The grind is real. You will eventually get a job interview but it takes a lot of time and patience. Everyone tech journey is different. Remember to have patience and remember that it takes time to land a job in IT. Everything has its own process. Just need to keep trying. Its not easy when everyone says no. Eventually, patience and perseverance pays off. Never compare yourself to other people. Everyone has their unique own story on how they got their first job.
