Just today I was in a store with a black guy who was mumbling to himself After he walked out a woman went to the counter and told the cashier that he had scooped several items into his bag before leaving The cashier said he does it all the time but the company wouldn’t let her call the police because they wouldn’t do anything anyway and it looks bad Everyone has been in this situation, they see a black person breaking the law or just the basic rules of civilized society but they stay quiet because they know that the black person will likely become violent if confronted and they will be called racist Austin Metcalf broke the sacred unwritten law of the United States He held a black man to the same standard he would hold a white man to and paid with his life

This submission by a rare Arab atheist says something Western media almost never admits: In Arabic, ordinary Arabs barely even discuss the “two-state solution.” Not as a serious option. Not as a public debate. Not even as something to reject. It mostly exists in official speeches aimed at Western audiences. I used to believe in that two state delusion too. Then Israel offered, in the 2000s, almost everything Westerners keep saying the Palestinians want: all of Gaza, roughly 96% of the West Bank, a road connecting them under their control, and even parts of Jerusalem. The answer was not peace. The answer was the Second Intifada. Years of suicide bombings, shootings, buses exploding, cafés blown up, and Israeli civilians murdered in the streets. At some point people need to ask the obvious question: How can so many Westerners still be this detached from reality? Even after October 7? And why is their media constantly lying to them about what Arab societies actually believe?

@EliLebowicz Israel kills people an any country they want and ruins personal and professional lives of those in ally nations that dare criticize them. What world do you live in that you think the Saudis can get kids thrown out of law school in the USA?

The reason you see so much criticism of Israel more than any other country is BECAUSE Israel is not nearly close to being a human rights violator in a serious way. If it was like China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Syria, Sudan, you wouldn’t actually be able to criticize them without real, dangerous consequences.

Oh, of course. Sort of like how I want France disbanded and overrun by terrorists, and the French forced to live exclusively as a scattered diaspora. And anyone who supports the continuance of France fired and rounded up into camps. But none of this means I hate French people.

Even crazier that we don’t have 30 movies about the Civil War. Of course I know why we don’t, but it’s still ridiculous. You could make a movie just about Antietam or Chancellorsville or Shiloh. You could make a Band of Brothers style thing following the course of the whole war and it would be phenomenal. In a just world Stonewall Jackson would have his own prestige awards bait biopic. But that will never happen in a million years.
Anthony J. Constantini@AJConstantini

It's insane how little there has been on say, the Revolution. Heck, we've never even had a major Washington biopic. We've never had an Andrew Jackson biopic - that man's life was made for movies! Ditto Roosevelt; just adopt Morris' trilogy and turn it into a film trilogy.

@jasoneccles @itsjohncrotty Right, which is why it's important to play your regional rivals that you have had conflicts with. If France and Germany could figure it out, then why does Israel run to Europe instead of being brave and sporting enough to play it's neighbors?

Exactly. Play everybody. Football is bigger than politics. It’s the great leveller. We can do things though. When we play offer to play Qatar, we should say we want to play 2 matches; against their men’s team and their women’s. If we play Israel, we can offer to play Palestine at the same time. We have 2 Irish football teams. Let the fans decide if they want to go see the men’s team play Israel or the Women’s team play Palestine. But this boycott nonsense is making us look very racist.

Ireland has played football matches against Nazi Germany, England, China, Qatar and the women’s team have played against North Korea. That the only time there was pause to discuss a boycott was before a match vs Israel is very telling.

@SlippySlipnuts @ZeekArkham If your embodiment of masculinity is an 80 year old man who eats cheeseburgers meant for 5 year olds, and you think the golden toilet guy defines blue collar, and you think watching guys fight makes you thought, well, that's the least masculine set of things I can imagine

The effete left still despises masculine energy and blue collar tastes. This is why they despise Trump. He is the embodiment of masculine, blue collar energy. His tastes include McDonald’s and cage fighting. The left works overtime to frame these things as inferior to their evolved and refined tastes. Trump then goes on to have policy successes that they are incapable of, despite their over-credentialed resumes… exacerbating their hatred for him and his supporters because it completely undercuts the basis for their own cultivated sense of superior intellect and ability. I love it.

So let me get this straight: - Bill Clinton was getting beejays in the Oval Office, and then he and Hillary proceeded to do a “snatch and grab” with the White House furniture. So much so that someone had to call them and go “give us our stuff back.” - Obama invited BLM and a bunch of gangsta rappers to the White House, ankle monitors included. - Biden had transgendered folks flashing their chesticles on the White House lawn. - But Trump is the bad guy because he wants to renovate a dining hall on one side of the White House and throw a UFC fight on the other. Butthurt is a very real thing, huh?

Its just remarkable that you put no emphasis on Hamas who is refusing to disarm. The ceasefire was proceeding imperfectly on both sides until it was time for Hamas to disarm and they said no. If you actually cared about Palestinians you would be demanding that Hamas is disarmed.
Tommy Vietor@TVietor08

Life for kids and families in Gaza during the "ceasefire" is hell on earth. Meanwhile, Netanyahu is directing the army to seize MORE of Gaza - he wants to occupy 70% of it. And Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz openly talks about the ethnic cleansing of Gaza.

This band sucked hard (seriously try listening to them) which is why no one cared about them and even if you are the type of nerdy midwit who cares about such concepts like “the first punk band” then obviously The Stooges or The Velvets or the MC5 or The Troggs or The Count Five or The Seeds or The Monks or The Sonics and countless other bands that played primitive guitar music with antagonistic and rebellious attitude (that’s basically what punk is, right?) did so earlier and way way better than Death. Black proto punk Death (not the death metal Death) is music destined for documentaries: being black punk musicians at a time before punk broke is good fodder for a leftist coded rock doc but it doesn’t mean the band mattered beyond that. It didn’t. This is one of my least favorite tendencies of liberal culture, constantly having to affirm their racial politics by casting grandiose aspersions against an entire cultural history by claiming that history was simply ripped off of some forgotten black subculture. Artistic genius is too personal to be reduced in this manner. People see or hear or read great art and then they might make great art informed by that art that inspired them, but no art purely belongs to any specific ethnic group. This should be obvious. It’s for anyone who wants it, believes in it and respects it.
ɠɧıʂɧ@rirokpik

See these guys? They started punk rock. It wasn't the racist Sex Pistols. It wasn't The Ramones. Definitely wasn't The Velvet Underground. It was DEATH. Back in 1971. Black people started music. From Blues to Rock n Roll to my favourite genre, Punk. Yes you heard me right.

@Clint_Davey1 There is zero chance Verhoven actually wanted to make a satire. 100% chance he just said that to get the Hollywood types off his back. Starship Troopers is exquisitely designed to glorify all the based things. That's why it doesn't work as a satire. It's not one.

Getting slammed for my lack of "media literacy" over the Barbie movie. Here's the best example to explain the point. Starship Troopers was supposed to be a satire of American militarism/nationalism. We know this because Verhoeven said so, and because it looks like propaganda from within the world being depicted. But when audiences just watch the movie, it has a totally opposite effect than what the artist intended. Handsome, competent, brave humans are fighting for the survival of humanity against giant bug monsters. So naturally nearly all normal humans watching this side with the humans. This includes people who know the movie is meant to be satire. So, we can conclude that the artist failed in his objective. The actual effect of the movie is very different from his intentions. Is this "media literacy"?
