So this means you expect every author to check every citation and make sure that every citation is real and accurate? What if it's beyond the ability of one of the authors to verify one of the citations because that citation is in a language he doesn't know or concerns technical material he doesn't understand but another author on the paper does?

In my new book The Vanishing Church, I tell the story about a church service I attended in college.
Young guy comes in late with his girlfriend and baby.
During Prayers of People he speaks up and says, "I lost my job and I'm not sure I can pay rent."
"Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer."
As the service ends, an older guy comes up to that young man and says, "I own the lumber yard and you can come work with me tomorrow."
It's not magic.
It's how faith communities operate.

One great thing I've seen in the halls of ND dorms these days are posters highlighting former residents who are now religious (CSC specifically). Visibility and relatability are humongous factors for even considering if one has a vocation.

Please offer a prayer for Deacon Redmond Tuttle who today will be ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. During my rector days at Notre Dame, our hall, Morrissey Manor, was blessed with 21 vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Redmond is now the third of that number to be ordained for the Church in Milwaukee. Other "Morrissey men" are presently ministering as priests with the Dominicans, Jesuits, Congregation of Holy Cross, the Fathers of Mercy and with the Dioceses of Ft. Wayne-South Bend, Cleveland, Covington, and Rockville Centre.

It is true that many more men are “failing to launch” today than in prior generations. Women now outnumber men in higher education by a ratio of almost 3 to 2. Fewer young men are working, and a rising number are stoned on the sofa. Fully 1 in 5 are living with their parents. For a young woman hoping to marry, these trends shrink the pool of available and attractive partners.
