Serving Police Firearms Officer Dies in M1 Incident Near Wakefield West Yorkshire Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the #M1 near #Wakefield yesterday evening. The incident involved a grey Ford Ranger came to a stop on the central reservation closing the M1 northbound late into the evening close to junction 41, near the Carr Gate Police Headquarters. Emergency services attended the scene, but the driver, a man in his 20s from #Huddersfield, was sadly pronounced dead. "A full investigation is ongoing into the circumstances of the incident," a police spokesperson confirmed. Authorities revealed the deceased was a serving police officer who was off duty at the time of the crash. "We can confirm the victim was a serving police officer who was not on duty at the time of the incident," said Assistant Chief Constable Rob McCoubrey. "Full welfare support is being offered to his family and close colleagues at what is clearly a terrible time for them."
