@RutgersAltRoute A5: With assessments I always make sure that a grade never weighs too heavily and can never be improved. Monologues for examples are assessed multiple times before the final performance/test. This way students know where they need to focus their work on. #GrowthMindset #TeacherED

This morning's 5th and final Q is on assessment #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset
“You can enhance or destroy students’ desire to succeed in school more quickly and permanently through your use of assessment than with any other tool you have at your disposal.” – Dr. Rick Stiggins

English

@RutgersAltRoute A4: Feedback for my class is in matched to the rubric I use to grade. This way my students know where they excelled and what needs improvement. I then focus in on ways they can improve on what they need help on and discuss what work I've seen them put in so far. #GrowthMindset
English

Feedback is a compass for improvement and not all feedback is created equally. For Q4 share your content area and consider your best practices and those you would like to try #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

English

@TaitLiza @RutgersAltRoute YEP! I had a math teacher tell me this when I didn't understand something and I was like "Well, guess I'm too stupid to move on from here then"
English

Framing, or how teachers introduce new concepts and tasks to students, is the focus of Q3. Framing can steer students to a fixed or growth mindset. It helps students feel free to be a work in progress as they learn. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

English

@RutgersAltRoute A3: A focus on language is important. Gotta make sure the message you are getting across shows that everyone learns at a different pace, they have a different starting line when it comes to education. Make sure they are focused on their journey and not someone elses. #TeacherEd
English

@Saskwatch62 @RutgersAltRoute aww man! I must have missed that announcement. Oh well I teach Improv so this will be good practice for thinking on my feet.
English

@KevinMaphis @RutgersAltRoute The announcement posted on Canvas by Tyler had these updated questions. They just wanted us to watch the old videos and then answer the updated questions. Hope this helps!

For Q2, consider the expectations you communicate to students (verbal and nonverbal) through your classroom climate, course material & response opportunities #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset
Tip: Be specific to your content & connect with others using a # like #ArtsEd #litchat #scichat

English

@RutgersAltRoute A2: You can promote a grown mindset in the classroom by ensuring your students are focused in on effort instead of outcome. Praise their hard work and not just their talent or intelligence. #GrowthMindset #TeacherEd
English

@RutgersAltRoute A1 There's an opportunity to see students grow both in what is being taught in class and how they see themselves develop as learners. Setting goals for themselves I feel is key to this. #GrowthMindset #TeacherEd
English

Teachers have the power to influence the mindset of students.
As you answer #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset Question 1, consider your own experience, readings, and what Carol Dweck refers to as the power of “yet” (youtu.be/hiiEeMN7vbQ?si…)

@RutgersAltRoute A5: we definitely need more training on how to read and understand IEP and 504 plans. Also professional development days for modification/accommodation strategies.
English

@RutgersAltRoute A5 Schools and teachers should always be up to date on the latest information and strategies that they can use to support all of their students. Collaborating directly with ABA programs etc in order to adjust methods as needed. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
English

For our final question (Q5) consider your classroom AND school-wide behavior management and discipline policies. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

English

@RutgersAltRoute A4 One of the rules in my acting class is that if a student is uncomfortable about an activity, they need to inform me so that I can help. I let them know that if there is a problem, and you don't tell someone, the problem can't be fixed. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
English

Teachers play a role in helping students learn and practice self-awareness skills and communicate their understanding.
For Q4 think about what you’ve done or ideas you’d like to implement to help students be self-advocates, agents of their own success #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

English

@RutgersAltRoute A3 For my acting class we have class rules about how to support each other. Along with this I make sure that information is given in a variety of ways to assist all kinds of learners. Modifications and accommodations are made for tests and lectures. #Theater #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
English

For Q3 be specific content area & how you support student success, for example, your classroom environment, assignments, and assessments #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
Tip: To connect with our teachers in your subject area, use the # for your content area, i.e #arted #mathchat #scichat

@RutgersAltRoute A2 In my classroom I've found that I can't use fidgets because with acting, the students hands will either be holding a prop or nothing. Preferential seating has been a boon for my class to make sure that the students are supported by peers and away from distractions. #TeacherEd
English

Dr. Jonas Bromberg & teacher Jon Weinberger discuss classroom strategies to support students with ADHD (youtube.com/watch?v=Dd62-e…) like providing fidget tools and offering checklists.
For Question 2 (Q2) consider what's worked or ideas you want to try #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

YouTube
English

@arcurem @RutgersAltRoute I remember when I was a paraprofessional for ABA the fidgets would also distract other students who would wonder why they weren't able to have one.
English

@RutgersAltRoute A1 One of my bigger challenges creating an inclusive environment has been providing fidgets to help with attention but then them becoming distractions. My biggest challenge is keeping focus with students with some learning disabilities. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
English

For Question 1 (Q1), reflect on your experience and current practices for creating an inclusive learning environment for students with learning disabilities. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

English

@RutgersAltRoute A1 I'm currently in a class where half of my students have IEPs and/or are part of our Special Ed program. With an acting class, this has shown me how the rules/ routines of the class have led to a supportive and safe place for every student to partake in. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
