Junior Caeden Herrera (@CaedenHerrera) was named South Central League MVP and First Team All Conference. Junior Kade Ortiz (@kadeortizz) and freshman MJ Molina (@MJ_Molina13) were each named to the First Team. Freshman Israel Allen (@IsraelJAllen1) and senior and Top Scholar Damian Cordova were named SCL All Conference Honorable Mention and junior Josiah Guerra was named to the All Defense Team. 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋. We started out hot and hit some bumps we just couldn’t come back from. Nevertheless, Team 65 etched its name in Pueblo South history forever. Picked to finish next to last in the SCL, these dudes battled to the very end and proved everyone wrong. A 2nd place league finish, the first playoff win since 2016 and a regional championship appearance. Nothing in us wants this to be over; this team was special. Cam was an absolute dawg against Mesa Ridge, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a double at the plate and closing the game out with a pick off and strikeout for the save to help the Colts secure the victory. We are looking for Cam to continue his momentum as we have some big games ahead to finish out this season. Teammate of the Week this week is Drew Nolasco (@drewnolasco7). Drew is learning firsthand the art of playing even and refusing to give up or backdown. If he isn’t having the day he wants at the plate, the goal has become being a defensive asset and great teammate so that he can control his mental and still be productive for the team in some way. He came up with some big hits against Mesa Ridge and strong defense on Saturday. He’s shifted into making great contact and is poised for a breakout here soon. We know it. Throughout the season, we will honor our top performance and teammate contribution as a way to acknowledge the hard work these guys put in day in and day out. Congratulations, gentlemen. The freshman had a day against Canon City in the road on Wednesday. Molina threw a complete game win on 7.0 IP, 4 Ks and 2 walks, while going 2 for 4 at the plate with a double. Teammate of the Week this week is Damian Cordova. Damian’s leadership comes from his quiet confidence. He loves to compete, he loves a challenge and he loves to elevate and inspire every chance he gets. Dame’s leadership shows in how he loves his teammates and how he competes for the Southside. He leads with gratitude, toughness and relentless belief and it’s one of the biggest driving factors to the success this season. From knockout to dodge ball to wiffle ball to pizza, prizes and pickup games, these dudes had a great time on a cold and snowy Saturday. We also got to sing Siah happy birthday. Congratulations to Damian Cordova for being arguably the greatest GM in the history of sports. Joined with Jack Rodriguez, Elijah Martinez, Jaiden Polito and Giovanni Silver, they completed the ultimate gauntlet as dragon slayers to be crowned the 2025 Spring Challenge Wiffle Ball Champions.
