@jarldietrich @alexathallow Dietrich, we love Fr. Ciszek. Two Lents ago we ran a challenge on his book, He Leadeth Me. It’s actually still on the app if you want to check it out.

This is a really great response! Very sober and mature. I know its a year off but for next Lent could I suggest "With God in Russia" by Father Walter Ciszek? Its the story of a Jesuit priest who goes to evangelize Russia and is arrested during the second world War for being a "spy" and spends over a decade in the Russian concentration camps. Amazing story of a man who should be canonized

Sorry y’all - have been trying to take a step back to spend some time with family post the craziness of the Ash Wednesday launch. Apparently over the last few days we’ve been attacked for a series of different things. So I wanted to take a moment and respond. I’m usually not very good at these kinds of things, but will give it my best. Before I do though I just wanted to say thank you. I’ve seen so many posts and replies defending Hallow and sharing what the Lord has done in your life. Honestly it’s brought me to tears several times. Thank you all. It means more than you know. Lord thank You for the opportunity to work on this - to be a witness to your goodness. Okay so the first and biggest one, interestingly enough, is folks attacking partners, mostly Gwen it seems, for partnering with an ‘anti-abortion’ app. - Yes, we are pro-life. At least we are trying our best to be. We are catholic. On every political issue we stand with the Pope and the Church. Then there is the usual group of people mad that we have a subscription option for Hallow. - There is a free version with thousands of free sessions and we give free subscriptions to anyone who reaches out and can’t afford it. Most people who use the app use it completely for free - forever. We do not sell ads or data. The subscription is how we support the work we do. We’ve got some folks upset that we are going through Dostoevsky for Lent. - For those of you concerned, please just give the challenge a try. I think the team did a really great job, working with several great priests, of weaving together Fr. Henri Nouwen, the spiritual message of Brothers K, and Scripture in a really beautiful way that’s all, of course, always in line with Church teaching. And then the latest seems to be a resurfacing of the fact that Peter Thiel is an investor. - Thiel is one of several hundred different individual investors in Hallow, each with their own politics and other businesses / investments. We are grateful for anyone who was willing to take a bet on Hallow, especially in the earliest days when essentially everyone said no, but we certainly don’t stand behind or endorse everything every investor does. We do not and would never share any user data with any investor. Thiel specifically is one of the most prolific technology investors of all time (Facebook / Instagram, PayPal, Apple, LinkedIn, Yelp, Microsoft, Tesla, Spotify, The Athletic, Stripe, Airbnb, Postmates, SpaceX), but just because he owns a share of a company certainly does not mean he has any control over its actions. Thiel is a relatively minor investor (~3% of Hallow’s overall funding). I’ve seen some people say he invested $40 million - this is off by an order of magnitude. He does not sit on our board, and has no decision making control. The three co-founders of Hallow have governance control of Hallow. If there is ever anything you disagree with, there is never anyone else to blame but me. Okay, I think that’s all. Tried to do my best to hit on the biggest points, but I’m sure I missed some. I’d ask, if you would, for your prayers. May the Lord use all of this only for His good. May He take this app, and everything we do, and use it only to share the incredible love He has for you. Lord, helps us to make everything we do only ever in the service of that. Lord, help me to thank You for the rebukes and for the criticism. May all things give You Glory. Empty me, fill me, use me.

Fernando Mendoza backs up his talk on TV by giving glory to God at Sunday Mass. I have wrestled with sharing this because he shows up out of love for God, not human praise. But I share because i hope his witness inspires others to go to Mass.

From today’s session in the Screwtape Letters challenge with Fr. John Riccardo of @ActsXxix: As you think about your life right now—your present situation, your faith, your enthusiasm, or lack of it—invite the Lord in, in a new way. Take a moment and try to picture Him standing right now, like a visitor standing at the door of your house. Jesus is knocking, wanting to come in, wanting to give you whatever grace you most need at this very moment. Just as you would if you heard a knock at your door, choose now to go and open the door of your heart and mind to Jesus. Imagine what Jesus’ face looks like as you open the door. Is He smiling? Eager to come in? Pay attention to how you're feeling as you see Him. What's going on inside you?

American #Jesuit Father Walter Ciszek (1904-1984) served for 23 years in Russia, much of it spent in captivity in Siberian labor camps and Soviet prisons. Today the annual Fr. Walter Ciszek Day Mass was held in Shenandoah, PA, where he was born. ➡️ ow.ly/ofAh50TPhRR

“Why would you go on Tucker?” Over the last few years have gotten a lot of questions around who we choose to partner with: who we choose to have on the app, who we choose to advertise with, what shows we go on. We take all of these questions very seriously and have pulled together our partner philosophy in detail for those who are interested. Here it is: Our Partnership Philosophy While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” He heard this and said, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”  Matthew 9:10-17 Background Hallow was started because I had fallen away, but returned to my faith through the discovery of contemplative prayer. Christ reached out to me through the Church’s spirituality and He changed my heart and my life completely. That’s why we started Hallow - to try to help people, especially those who have fallen away, to pray and to encounter Christ.  When we were first building Hallow, we built it just for ourselves. Contemplative and meditative prayer brought me back to the faith, and we wanted to create a tool to help us continue growing deeper in a relationship with God. But some of our friends and family soon started using the app and we had to figure out what we wanted Hallow to be. So, as with all serious decisions, we prayed about it. My co-founder and I both ended up praying about the same passage: the Parable of the Ten Talents (Mt 25:14-30). And we realized something from that passage that we hadn’t really thought about before: how much risk the men must have had to take on in order to double their talents. How they must have made big, bold bets - bets that very well could have not worked out. And from that time in prayer we realized that was what God was asking us to do with this app - to take some big swings, to take risks, in order to try to reach out to those who have fallen away. We realized Hallow isn’t something that’s necessary. It isn’t like a church or a doctor. I use the app every day, multiple times a day, but if it’s not around tomorrow, I’ll be fine. I’ll still be able to pray the Rosary, meditate with the Daily Readings, and go to Mass. You do not need an app to pray. But what we do have is a unique opportunity to take some big swings and reach out to those hardest to reach, and through the grace of God, introduce them to His Love. And so we landed on structuring Hallow as a startup (specifically a Public Benefit Corporation) - an organization that we knew was almost certain to fail, but that had a small chance of reaching out to those who were in their darkest moments and introducing them to the Love of Christ. This is the ‘why’ behind everything we do. It’s why we work with celebrities. It’s why we take big swings on a superbowl ad or other TV commercials.  The vast majority of the content on the app is led by priests, religious sisters, bishops, theologians, and other great spiritual leaders, but we’ve found that partnering with celebrities can act as a really powerful invitation to folks who otherwise would never download a Christian app, and invite them into the beauty of the Church’s spirituality.  Philosophy It is important, of course, for us to think through, seriously, who and how we partner with various creators. We are still early in this journey, but over the past few years working on this, and after many different conversations with faith advisors and time in prayer, we have developed the following philosophy. We generally think about partners in three different categories: 1. Spiritual leaders 2. Content partners 3. Advertising partners Read more in comments

There are really no words that describe the joy of being a parent. The best thing I've found that comes somewhat close is this: Before kids my life was black and white. Now I have color. 'Go forth and multiply'
