Anyone taking Finasteride is playing the russian roulette and can have their life completely destroyed overnight. Way more men are affected than studies or even the men themselves want tk admit because: 1) the drug works very well so if you are insecure and growing back a head full of hair, do you want to believe that your life is getting wrecked by the thing solving one if the issues causing you the most insecurity? 2) the side effects (physical, mental, physiological and physiological) are very sneaky and mostly come slowly until you end up as the shadow of yourself- a completely different person that is broken forever The fact that this rat poison is out there taken by probably hundreds of millions of men breaks my hearts because its destroying part of their lives without them realizing or without them wanting to realize it

I have been asked about finasteride a lot lately. Here is my honest take. The research says it does not affect testosterone or free testosterone. And technically that is true. But here is the problem nobody is talking about. The way free testosterone is measured in virtually every study is a calculation. A formula using total testosterone, albumin, and SHBG. Not a direct measurement. DHT binds to SHBG with significantly higher affinity than testosterone does. It essentially outcompetes testosterone for binding sites. When DHT is high it saturates SHBG leaving more testosterone unbound and free. Drop DHT with finasteride and those SHBG binding sites open back up. Now they bind testosterone instead. Your calculated free T looks the same because the formula does not account for DHT competition. But your actual directly measured bioavailable testosterone could be meaningfully lower. Nobody is measuring this correctly in the studies. Some men are completely fine on finasteride. A small subset have significant issues. The post finasteride syndrome debate has always been framed as psychological or rare. But if real bioavailable testosterone is dropping in ways the standard testing methodology cannot detect that is a legitimate mechanistic explanation that deserves serious investigation. If you are considering finasteride get your free testosterone measured directly via equilibrium dialysis before and after. Not calculated. Direct.
