When people get in their 50s and 60s and up, do you start thinking about how many years you have left? I’m curious..

When did teacher’s attire take a turn? Teachers today dress like they are all teaching PE. Growing up all my teachers wore heels, dresses, slacks, dress shirts, hair was done. They looked put together. Teachers today look like they don’t care. the way you show up contributes to the environment you work in. this may be one of the factors into why kids behave the way they do. take the profession seriously so the kids can take you seriously

@DanaPalubiak I started giving my high school Classes a 5-10 minute walk break every day (we’re block schedule/80 min classes), preferably outside but inside the school if it’s cold/bad weather. They get to move/talk to their friends/check their phone. As an adult, *I* appreciate this break!

Bell-to-bell instruction in elementary school makes me think of all-day PDs with no breaks. Adults wouldn’t tolerate it. But we expect kids to.

My coworker never attends after-work gatherings; everyone says he's withdrawn, aloof, and doesn't fit in. Today, I overheard him on the phone in the stairwell. “Dad, did you take your medicine at noon? I’ll be home soon. Shall we eat at our favorite roast duck restaurant today?” Don't judge others too easily.

My father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at 62. The oncologist gave him six months, maybe a year with aggressive treatment. Dad looked at the scan, looked at the doctor, and said, “What happens if I do nothing?” “You’ll be comfortable. Hospice can manage the pain. But… six months, maybe less.” My dad decided against treatment. He said, “I’m not spending my last months poisoning myself. I want to feel like me for as long as I can.” He quit his job. Sold his house. Bought an RV. He and my mom drove across the country visiting every national park they’d ever talked about seeing. We called every week expecting bad news. Weeks turned into months. Six months passed. Then a year. At the 18-month mark, he went back for a scan because he was actually feeling better. His cough was gone. He’d gained weight. The scan showed the tumor had shrunk by 60%. No treatment. Just… shrunk. The doctors couldn’t explain it. They used words like “spontaneous regression” and “anomaly.” My dad lived another seven years. He died at 69—not from cancer, but from a heart attack while hiking in Yosemite. He told me once, “Maybe the cancer went away because I stopped being afraid of it. Or maybe I was just lucky. Either way, I got seven extra years I wasn’t supposed to have.” ~Anonymous

@RogersHistory Just bc everyone went to school, they (incorrectly!!) think it gives them the authority to be experts on school/teaching. So erroneous.

So many armchair teaching experts, it's staggering. "The teacher should do XYZ" - Make it sound so simple, no idea how difficult it is to manage so many competing challenges in a classroom setting. No proper teaching experience.

Classroom teachers have to make 1000s of decisions a day. Some ppl are completely unaware of how many things a teacher has to remember to do on any given day, how many opportunities there are to get things right or wrong, how much stuff there is. It's hugely intense, requires complete commitment, hence why ppl get so tired. If you ain't done it, you won't know it.
