@HNadim87 I wish they would understand respect comes from respecting yourself first and your fellow citizens.

Geopolitics is the sport for the ruling elite that wants respect when it lands in Paris, London or NYC. Meanwhile forced evictions, load shedding and HIV is the daily reality for our people.

I think of war through the lens of someone who survived one. It means displacement and irreversible trauma. The continued war with Iran will mean more death, more suffering, and more chaos. End the war.

One thing is for certain, JD vance on his return trip back to the same situation room. Break down of talks, Orban’s loss. He’ll have more questions than he left with. He’ll arrive more confused, more uncertain, with a deep sense of isolation.

That's actually completely false. The Strait of Hormuz - which at its narrowest is only 21 nautical miles wide - is Iranian and Omani territorial waters. Under UNCLOS Part III (Arts. 37-44), the applicable regime is "transit passage," not "freedom of navigation." Transit passage gives coastal states regulatory authority over sea lanes. And the point is moot anyhow since - as Haqqani himself notes - Iran never ratified UNCLOS: you can't invoke it against them while calling it "non-negotiable."
Husain Haqqani@husainhaqqani

The Strait of Hormuz is an international strait. Under UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (which Iran has not ratified) all ships & aircraft enjoy freedom of navigation & overflight. No state can suspend this right. Rights are not subject to negotiation & renegotiation.

@AmmarRashidT @worqas Since I have a background in weighing facts & arguments & keeping with the theme of the hour would like to offer mediation b/w both parties. I generally would charge a fee but b/c I admire both of your distinctive expression of patriotism I’ll forgo in furtherance of Bhai Chara.

Man desi psuedo-left has gone so bonkers in their faujeet pro max mode that they dont want journalists to look into any detail of what is happening. "Nothing to see here, move along people." The literal job of journalists is to question, observe, analyze every detail.

You can take a principled position in support of the ceasefire, and you can also take an equally principled position against the actors involved, given their backgrounds, intentions, and history. Just because the illegitimate Pakistani military regime happens to be actively involved in the peace process, neither washes away its tyrannical and criminal rule at home, nor gives it sudden legitimacy or mandate to rule. Supporting peace process doesn't mean you have to support, cheer or whitewash the regime's brutal and tyrannical record at home.

Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement, this is a blatant and indefensible assault on the rule of law. It violates jail rules, binding Supreme Court jurisprudence and fundamental rights under Articles 9 & 14 of the Constitution. It also puts Govt of Pakistan in clear breach of its international obligations. The arbitrary isolation of a Imran Khan is nothing short of a grave abuse of power and must end immediately

Those that want war didn’t come this far to have a ceasefire without finishing the job. The war will likely continue, even under the ceasefire.

It doesn't matter how you put it. "Cleaning Trump's shit" or whatever language you use. Today, two main belligerent parties put out a statement both specifically naming Pakistan as a mediator to a major ceasefire agreement. This is a fact. Whatever role needed to be played, whether it was "cleaning shit" or whatever was required to stop a realistically imminent nuclear war and deaths of millions of innocent Iranians is worth the effort. So if Pakistan did it, as both fighting parties acknowledge it did, why are we adamant on denying this reality? I will tell you why. Because the outcome bothers you. Because you don't like the implications of this specifically for PTI and Imran Khan. But I am telling you that you don't have to let it bother you. That we can deal with the implications. That this also will ultimately fit into the grand plan in store for Pakistanis. You should understand reality as it is happening based on verifiable facts. This will help you ultimately find better solutions.
Haider Mehdi@SHaiderRMehdi

I think we're confusing two issues @worqas. Ending the conflict and Pakistan's, or rather Asim and Shahbaz's role. Two totally different deals. 1. Conflict ending. Trump blinked. China's help sought. Pakistan told to clean Trump's shit. 2. Pakistan's role. Cleaning Trump's shit. The credit to end the conflict, if it holds, goes to Trump for crapping in his pants and backing off and to Iran for standing firm, fighting USA and Israel, staring them down and basically telling them to " Eff Off".

Pakistan 🇵🇰 accomplished seemingly the impossible and brought the world back from the brink. It’s momentous! What’s more incredible is to believe both US and Iran actually seek peace. They aren’t the maximalists as some have painted them to be.
