Last night we got an up close look at @NWOSUWBB and they are every bit as good as advertised..This group is very selfless and it’s the best defensive team I can remember in Alva..@coachtdiess hasn’t built a program, she’s built a culture, a credit to past/present coaches/players

It’s time to start giving @coachtdiess credit for being one of the best coaches in the GAC..Tonight the @NWOSUWBB went into Searcy and took down #7 Harding..NWOSU is 7-1 with the only loss in OT against #2 Pitt State..Always overlooked but always a tough out #RRR

It's tough to see progress sometimes, especially when it means saying goodbye to a place filled with so many incredible memories. We watched the "Big House" deteriorate over the years, which was sad, but seeing it in its current state of brokenness today was truly heartbreaking. I almost couldn't bring myself to look.
Despite the sadness, I want to take a moment to reflect on all the positive experiences we shared at the "Big House." I'm so grateful for all the amazing games we witnessed, for the communities that showed up and filled the stands to support their schools, and for the friendships that started there but became so much more. Relationships that made coming back to the State Tournament a lot like coming home to a family reunion.
The old State Fair Arena was truly a special place, and with all the sporting events I've attended over the years, I've never encountered an atmosphere quite like it—especially when the seats were packed and the game was down to the wire. The roar of the crowd was incredible, and to be honest, part of me worries that the state tournament won't feel the same.
But as I extend a heartfelt thank you to the "Big House" for all the memories, I am reminding myself that what made that place so special was actually the people inside: the dedicated student-athletes, the coaches directing and dreaming with their teams, cheerleaders motivating and leading the spirited student sections, the proud but nervous parents, the supportive communities who often shut down businesses for the day just to show up for their team, and even those dedicated basketball fans who just came to watch the game—even when they didn't know anyone on either team.
You also had the officials, who were living out their own dreams, being called up and entrusted to call these high-stakes games, the OSSAA directors and staff who planned the logistics all year to make the state tournament happen, the state fair workers who executed the plan, and the reporters on press row who covered the games and told the memorable stories. I saw and appreciated them all.
This school year, we'll get to start new traditions, though, and those will be special too. Some who sat in the same seats year after year will now have to find new seats. I'm wondering if it will be difficult for you to choose.
While there are so many things I don't know, here's what I do know. At the end of this year's basketball championship game, we will still see a dog pile, one team holding up the coveted gold ball while the other will be heartbroken, settling for the silver. We will see happy and sad tears being shed, as we witness both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
That is Oklahoma high school state tournament basketball—no matter what building it is played in.
In honor of today's implosion and sad goodbye, we invite you to share your photos and favorite moments, traditions, etc., from the Big House!
Thank you for the memories, old friend. We will never forget you!
