I'm always entertained by articles that just say "[x game studio] is working on their next game!". No one is sitting around between games twiddling their collective thumbs. We're always up to no good - or good - or somewhere in the middle - but there's always something.

5/ There's a lot of big stuff still completely missing (like enemy AI) and I doubt I'll ever finish it, but it's about the journey, right? It's still a lot of fun to work on periodically.

4/ For a couple years I spent a bunch of my free time on it, but as time went on I worked on it less and less. In the last three years I've probably only spent a total of 2-dozen evenings adding support for music, sound effects, and a few other little things.

It's a rare day when you get to share with the world what you've been working on. I can't wait until people get a chance to play. youtube.com/watch?v=12m0bw…

A little late for #Doom30, but here's the progress on my from-scratch rewrite of Doom, which I work on in my very limited spare time. Why do it? Just to see if I can. youtu.be/lTeNj0SpCP0

@aureylian I also wonder if not being able to see things in your head is required to read super fast. For me, what I read happens in real time because I'm picturing everything in my head like it's a movie - so slow, but super vivid. Reading fast would be like watching a video at 2x speed.

I have a question for people who can't see things in their mind when they think about it: When a book describes someone's characteristics or their outfit, what do you "see"? Nothing? As in, it just interprets in your mind as data and you aren't visualizing it as youre reading?

@unitygames Had a terrible interview with EA. Needed to learn C++ quickly so started a full rewrite of Doom from scratch. 2 months later was in Vancouver for vacation and called recruiters repeatedly to let me come in and talk to someone again. Got called back with a job offer the next day.

@JLHGameArt I’m also the model for one of the referees in the NHL series. Several years back I switched from Online to Gameplay. And mid-pandemic I left EA and joined The Coalition, where I’m having a blast. Maybe one day I’ll actually start tweeting about all the stuff I’ve seen…

@JLHGameArt Hi, I’m Mike. I’ve never revealed where I work and I seldom tweet, so I don’t have followers :P I was an engineer at EA for 16 years and created the network architecture that allows their sports games to have more than 1v1 (Online Team Play / EASHL).

@tha_rami It's almost like we're real people just trying to do what we love, and don't deserve the hate we get when it's not exactly what someone else wants :)

@GilbyRanger But more importantly were skills around how to work with people. How listen, ask for help, take advice and feedback, etc. That takes time and the right attitude. Having a good mentor helps.
