🚨 April CPI came in hotter than expected at +3.8% YoY (vs ~3.56% Cleveland Fed nowcast). Energy surge (geopolitics) played a big role, but shelter (+0.6% MoM) stole the show. Analysts point to technical distortions from the 2025 government shutdown - delayed rent data is now "catching up." (!) Meanwhile, real rental market (Zillow etc.) continues cooling. CPI shows the opposite. Nuanced data like this makes precise 0.1% bets on Polymarket insanely tough long-term. Ambitious game. Sharp prints still pressure policymakers regardless of causes. May data (right before June FOMC) will be crucial.
