@SilentGhost263 I don’t think we’ll have any trouble getting good candidates to be honest. As much as we’re a shit show, ending the drought would be extremely alluring to some people.

@SilentGhost263 Not 100% who you mean by ‘2 of the loudest voices’ sorry. you’re right tho, the coterie always have to chuck Hird’s name around. It’s painful. But this media isn’t stupid, all it takes is one nameless insider to say ‘coterie wants Hird’ and it’ll be printed with 0 verification

@KilldozingBaby you mean 2 of the loudest, most public voices that surround a football club?? also not to mention coteries + 'essendon people' in the background constantly pushing for the return of the boys club. thats my point, even with Hird saying he had no interest it was still there.

@KilldozingBaby @SilentGhost263 Because he said he wasn’t keen back before they fired Knights. And then look what happened. Him saying he isn’t interested, frankly, can’t 100% be trusted.

@ScooterMcNeice No idea if Scott is the right man or not, but unless a new coach was able to vastly and rapidly improve the basic skills of the players, we’ll find ourselves in the exact same position

You probably didn’t even notice the Giants move away from their original name, now they might be exploring a full-blown rebrand. But what should they be called? READ 👉 bit.ly/4f3Ywls

Exclusive with @MaccaHeraldSun. The AFL is looking at a 24 game season from 2028 onwards as Tasmania enters the league. 23 games won’t work. So it’s 22 or 24. Could the AFL consider an overseas round? Games in India and California? More games in Cairns and NT? Everything up for grabs. The options 👇 heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-…

Social media slop, no FTA games on Saturdays, admin that do not watch games, infinite amounts of radio/tv shows that all say the same 5 things over and over, etc. What off-field part of the afl and its legions do you feel most disconnected and disillusioned by?

I've been writing about the corner that the Australian film industry has backed itself into through a well-documented, intentional separation between screen industry and screen culture but David Field here is also right about what being a yank film subsidy country means as well.

Australia was once world-renowned for its provocative and ambitious cinema and now only makes detective airport novel adaptations set in small towns called 'The Gully' and trauma-slop horror movies called 'Come Here'

I know kayo was never great but fuck me it’s so bad since DAZN took over. Why did they remove every usable feature. Why would you remove changing the stream during a game, why would you remove key moments. It’s just fucked.

@seanHPN An excellent point no doubt - but have you considered the afl could make money from this? And therefore it must be good?

Unconscionable that a team who finished higher on the ladder might need to win a final hosted, for commercial reasons, in a whole other city... even potentially the home city of their opponent.
ABC SPORT@abcsport

Corbin Middlemas has reported on ABC Sport that Wildcard Weekend could be up for sale as early as the 2027 season. This year, the teams finishing 7th and 8th will host the Wildcard fixtures, but from next season, hosting rights could go to the highest bidder. The AFL says it will reassess the model at the end of the year. @CorbinMiddlemas reports that preliminary conversations have already taken place between the AFL and the WA government about the concept. @tommorris32 But that is literally not what you said, you said “the James Hird back at Essendon story”. Why not say you just want Hird back in coaching then?

@BomberBanter_au A lot of fans need to stop watching for a while for their own sake - no need for them to engage in the footy if it causes them such anguish

Some of you in my mentions week after week continue to keep trying to reel me into your doom and gloom, but I will not be led. I am actively choosing to feel joy where there is joy to be felt, it is not my fault you are choosing not to do the same. If after last night you want to live in the dungeon of “ThEY toOK The FOot Off THE GaS” and disallow any of the light to get in, your choice, but don’t project on to those choosing to see and feel the positive after what has been 14 previous quarters of yuk footy. It’s not about accepting mediocrity or suppressing the reality, it’s about acknowledging the present, and damn do we deserve to feel some joy irrespective of what comes next. ❤️🖤
