Quick story time:
I gave one of my students a copy of Halo: The Flood back in December. I have my students do a semester-long independent reading project due at the end of the year.
This kid not only read The Flood (he hates reading, btw), but ended up reading First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, and Oblivion.
All he needed was some level of interest in what he read. He has become one of my most productive students based solely on the fact that someone gave him a chance to explore what he might like.
That’s why the books matter.

@boinksi My teacher let me do the same for my LA class. She said we could read anything so long as it was over a certain page number and then write an in-universe report on an event in the book (That was the fun part).
So I got to do a presentation to my class on the Keyes Loop.

Fun fact: in order to stay in business most Chuck E. Cheese’s operate as ghost kitchens. When you go on DoorDash and see those restaurants that don’t exist in real life like “burrito time” it’s a Chuck E. Cheese with a fake name cooking they ass off.
