The Denver Post trying to do a sob story here about this family being deported to Venezuela. Buried in the article is the fact that because they have a bunch of kids they’re getting a $10k payout to leave and no less than three sets of (likely US taxpayer funded) NGO lawyers are helping them get max payout before they go including one offering a direct line to Colorado’s senators and congressmen. What American family down on their luck gets $10k and 3 different free attorneys plus taxpayer funds for medical care, food, housing etc. I missed the part where I voted for any of this or for a fleet of NGO lawyers to use my money to extract maximum taxpayer benefits for foreigners.

Incredible. Norman Finkelstein has been a single-issue activist his whole adult life, and that issue was Palestinian liberation. You might think he would be the first person to welcome opposition to Israel becoming bipartisan.
But now he's actually upset that people on the right are "obsessed" with Israel!
He spends most of this interview kvetching about how Tucker Carlson is promoting antisemitism by saying Israel controls America, and plays out his nightmare scenario where someone like Tucker runs on an America First platform that normalises addressing Jewish loyalty to Israel.
Interestingly, he considers this scenario much worse than continued rule by Zionists.

This is utterly insane. In Canada, a psychiatrist can just LOOK at you in a public place, sitting on a bench, or eating a sandwich, or walking down the sidewalk, and they can "certify" you as being insane, and the police will arrest you and take you to a psychiatric evaluation.
No rights. No law. No due process. No defense.
The psych doctors are the ones who are insane. And government authoritarians, of course.

A biophysics grad was just detained under BC's Mental Health Act. All based on a psychiatrist's opinion after observing him in a cafe. He looked at him & said “I’m certifying you” THAT’S ALL IT TOOK. No warrant. No on scene evaluation. No psych evaluation. No paperwork shown. No chance to comply voluntarily. Just because a psychiatrist saw him in a cafe. Meanwhile, the same city has a documented drug addicts, where one person, has been apprehended 79 times and is still on the street. The government can grab a credentialed researcher off the road in 20 minutes but it can't keep a chronic offender out of the same intersection for more than a week? What a joke.

Hoffman is the 49-year-old Waco, TX attorney who faced life without parole for repeatedly raping a young boy, until Texas AG Ken Paxton offered him 1 day in jail and no need to register as a sex offender. A judge increased his sentence to a whopping 60 days. He got out in 30 days.
