I hope the next Congress gets their sh*t together after what we all have witnessed this last year and actually investigates and pursues whatever kinds of charges they can in whatever capacity is best suited to go after the multiple instances of fraud that has been perpetrated through vendors and contractors in government projects. And there absolutely should be a rule enacted that no official or department or agency can ever again use no bid contracts.
katya schwenk@ktyschwnk

After an obscure defense vendor won a $12 million no-bid contract w/ ICE, I noticed something odd on its website: The firm was using a (still watermarked!) stock photo for the chief of its “development team.” Things only got more bizarre from there…

When did we normalize this? When did it become okay for a president to tell a female reporter she’s a ‘dumb person’ for asking a totally legitimate question about his contradictory answers? Was there a specific date and time it become okay? Normal? Normalized?
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

TRUMP: We have a ballroom that's under budget. It's going up right here. I've doubled the size of it because we obviously need that. REPORTER: The price doubled TRUMP: I doubled the size of it, you dumb person. You are not a smart person.

Let me get this straight. Trump, the only president since Nixon not to release his tax returns, and who promised he would release his tax returns when he was president, is suing the government for $10 billion dollars in "damages" for leaked tax returns which reveal his corruption. And his DOJ, which is run by his personal lawyer who he appointed as "Acting AG," is going to settle. So the American people are now gong to personally pay a corrupt president $10 billion of our hard earned tax dollars, because his feelings got hurt when his shady tax returns were leaked? Got it. 👌

“Do not lose sight of the fact that Trump spent decades sexually assaulting with impunity and was rewarded for his crimes with television contracts and a supplicant press, while a coterie of billionaires lined up to put money into his greasy little hands. Do you believe for a minute that the concept of due diligence was a foreign one to the lawyers at NBC when they drew up a multimillion dollar contract for a man who had been in the tabloids for literally decades - and who the New South Wales government had refused to allow to open a casino in Sydney’s Darling Harbor in 1987 due to his extensive Mob ties? The Australian police cited Trump’s Atlantic City casinos as evidence of organized crime associations and advised the government it would be dangerous to do business with the consortium Donald had formed. Or do you think the chance to make some Mark Burnett bucks with the bankrupt pretend-billionaire married to the former adult escort and his odious unqualified children was enough to make them look the other way? There was certainly ample evidence of Trump’s misdeeds and malfeasance by 2003 when ‘Apprentice’ was green lit. Do you think Jeff Zucker, then president of NBC Entertainment and the folks in the C-Suite at 30 Rock were unaware of Jeffrey Epstein and his ties to Donald Trump? How about when Zucker left to run CNN where he completely ignored Trump’s ignoble past in the 2016 election, choosing instead to focus on the ‘ratings gold’ he has always known Trump to deliver. It was a business to these folks, and it still is, while our democracy crumbles before our very eyes. On top of this - witnessing our backsliding into a cesspool of division and the cult-like embrace of POTUS’s solipsistic dogma, a small but very powerful handful of people entrusted to serve our nation are giving into their pecuniary desires, instead of living up to their responsibilities. What we have seen over the last year and a half is the apex of America’s greed, an orgy of overindulgence consummated by a chosen few.” open.substack.com/pub/noelcasler…

"Taxpayers are footing a whopping $1 billion bill for Trump's ballroom. Your budget cuts the National Park Service by $1 billion. If you put this $1 billion towards our national parks instead of Trump's ballroom, that would benefit every single American."

PabloReports: Ted Cruz called you a parasite and disparaged your work as a bartender. AOC: It’s not a secret the disdain Ted Cruz has for people who work working-class jobs. It’s not a secret what he thinks of the waitresses, the line cooks—he thinks we’re less than him. He thinks that because he has a Harvard degree and has never scrubbed a table that it makes him better than someone who has actually had to work for a living. I think it’s funny that he’s been taking a government paycheck for 23 years but has the audacity to criticize someone who has come from a family that had to work their way up and earn their place here.

Well this is both hilarious… and depressing at the same time. Trump’s Interior Secretary just discovered that the sun sets at night… Doug Burgum said: “When the sun goes down, solar panels produce zero electricity. The whole machine doesn't work.” Then, Rep. Jared Huffman literally held a battery up and said: “I request to enter into the record this amazing new technology that apparently the Secretary is unaware of. It’s a battery.” Then Huffman added that China has figured it out, “that’s why they are cleaning our clock on clean energy.” Energy storage exists. Grid-scale batteries exist. Entire countries are building them at scale right now. But, here we are, still debating whether solar panels stop working when the sun sets. At some point it stops being a policy disagreement and starts feeling like we’re arguing with reality itself.

WEISS: Gulf Arab states now cutting bilateral deals with Ukraine and saying to United States, “You guys went to war with Iran, couldn’t protect us from Shahed drones. Guess who can? Ukraine, a country you want to forfeit and sacrifice to the altar of Putin.” It makes no sense.

So, we’re seeing it now or after the war that’s not a war is over? But we were also told we were in the Golden Age last year. The goal posts keep moving. Is it because he’s so old and demented he can’t remember what he said two seconds ago or because he can’t keep up with his own lies?

Theft is all that there is left of this admin. Robbing taxpayers, robbing our country of its dignity, robbing us of our future with how long it’s going to take to claw ourselves back from all the debt we’ve incurred. The elites are living high on the hog while we’re scrounging couch cushions for change to afford a tomato to throw in their faces.

The greatest political deceit of my lifetime is one that's been perpetrated for decades. It predates Trumpism. It's the notion that the Republican Party is more fiscally responsible to the people than the Democratic Party. It's never been true.

America's chief Middle East negotiator - Jared Kushner - is almost completely dependent on Middle East government investment in his chief business. It's probably the biggest conflict of interest in American diplomatic history and we should be talking about this way more.

Coons: Our president said that we never asked for and never received anything from our NATO allies. Was that your experience in Afghanistan? Hegseth: I've written extensively about that, and the vast majority of my experience was frustration with the limits of what those troops were able to do because of the political caveats, rules of engagement limits that came from there. Coons: But you don't doubt or question that about a third of all the combat casualties in our war in Afghanistan were our NATO partners and allies? Hegseth: I would have to go back and check that number

Makary is out. Now the US has no CDC Director, No FDA Commissioner, and no Surgeon General. And the NIH Director who is also defacto acting CDC Director never trained in Medicine. During this hantavirus outbreak the US needs steady public health leadership and a authoritative voice to the American people. There currently is no one to fill that role.
