@colin_dunlap What kind of society are we proposing if, instead of finding solutions for all people to participate in sports, we just ban trans athletes altogether. It is dangerous to not speak against this flyer.

@colin_dunlap There should absolutely be opportunities for trans athletes to participate in sports. If they did not speak out against this flyer, it would be ridiculous. Catena took a stance to literally stands against trans athletes in sports- in general.

Lissa Geiger Shulman is actually the County Council member who should be questioned most about Pat Catena.
Why? Her daughter wrestles.
So either she’d be ok (especially after puberty) with her own daughter competing against trans athletes OR she is a coward and didn’t speak up.

@OkayWithLokay @colin_dunlap Agreed. He searched for buzzwords and talking points to slap on a mailer, aiming for attention at the expense of children. It speaks volumes about a person when their primary attack targets a marginalized population, especially kids. He knew what he was doing.

The ridiculous part is acting like Catena is some martyr for democracy. He built his campaign mailer on a manufactured culture war issue he knew would get attention. Now he got it.
PA has real problems: taxes, schools, infrastructure, healthcare, addiction, jobs. Pat chose to send mailers about an issue that impacts maybe 0.1% of people, mixed with goofy “socialism” panic and geography nonsense.
The backlash IS democracy. Voters and community members are allowed to think the campaign was unserious and say so publicly. That’s not bullying. That’s politics.
