Garth Ennis has always described the core message of The Boys comic as a satire of unchecked power, corporate corruption of government, celebrity culture, and abuse of authority written in direct response to post-9/11 America. Superheroes were just the metaphor.
The TV show simply updates the timeline to present-day America. The fundamental themes of corrupt power structures and celebrity worship remain exactly the same.
If you think the show changed the political message, then you’re missing what Ennis himself has said about both versions.

You’re so close to understanding the point it’s painful. An analogue is a parallel representation not a literal 1:1 embodiment. Darth Vader isn’t “literally Hitler.” Godzilla isn’t “literally nuclear weapons.”
The show absolutely made Homelander a Trump analogue. That’s different than saying the character IS Trump. Especially when the character existed for years before Trump was even in politics and he wasn’t much different just updated for the times.

I read every word Ennis wrote. Homelander was always a broad critique of unchecked power, nationalism, celebrity worship, and corporate corruption. The DNA of the character existed long before modern politics entered the picture.
Did the show adapt those themes to fit the current era? Absolutely. But that’s less “they turned Homelander into Trump” and more real life starting to mirror the kind of authoritarian celebrity culture Ennis was already warning about 20 years ago.

@MugambaThebig @kangminlee There was no “morphing” needed. If you actually read the comics, which predate Trump by years, Homelander was already a narcissistic, authoritarian sociopath. The show mostly stayed true to that character, aside from one major twist near the end that the TV version didn’t use.
