I’m a doctor who has seen people die from vaccine-preventable diseases. What parents need to hear right now is vaccines for measles, polio, hepatitis B and other childhood diseases are safe and effective and will not cause autism. Any statement to the contrary is wrong, irresponsible, and actively makes Americans sicker. We need to understand the real causes of autism. Studies show there’s a genetic predisposition when a mom who’s pregnant is exposed to environmental toxins which can increase a child’s risk of autism. It’s deeply troubling that, according to HHS officials, they appeared to have canceled hundreds of millions in research on autism genetics. Redirecting attention to factors we definitely know DO NOT cause autism denies families the answers they deserve. We had two children die and many more hospitalized nationally from measles this year. Louisiana is experiencing its worst whooping cough outbreak in 35 years. Families are getting sick and people are dying from vaccine-preventable deaths, and that tragedy needs to stop.

I sent this to my friends and family. Sharing it here as well This July 4th, I wanted to send you all a note given what's happening in our country. I wish I had more positive news or a more inspiring take, but I have to be honest. I find myself really feeling dispirited about our political situation and democracy. I know I’m not supposed to say that. I know that fascism thrives on fear and hopelessness. And I know that I’m usually the one who can make anyone feel better, shift perspective, or alter time horizons for change. I know that on the darkest days during these last years, I’ve been able to find hope and inspiration. Even on January 6th, despite an insurrection, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff won election. A Black man and a Jewish man winning Senate seats in the Deep South. Despite everything that happened that day, there was something to be proud of. And of course, our Republic held because of the bravery of so many. But something feels different right now. As afraid or upset as I’ve been during these last years, the feelings have felt transitory. I could brush them off with a quick victory or two. Or just with the mere passage of time. The difference about this situation now is that everything feels more permanent and more lasting. This doesn’t mean this situation is permanent and lasting. Far from it. But overcoming these challenges can’t be done in a news cycle or even election cycle. The damage done has been too great and too profound. So what’s my message? My message is that it’s OK to feel this way. Because the work is the work of a generation. The fight is the fight of our generation. Feeling this way doesn’t mean you’ve lost hope. Or that you’ve given up. It just means we have to acknowledge this new reality. I am committed as ever. More so. I have another message too. While it's OK to feel despair right now -- it's in fact natural -- it's also OK to feel joy and happiness, to laugh, and even to be silly. My two children Frances and Leonard make me feel all these feelings most of (not all) the time. And a brief note about my son Lenny who turned 1 just a couple weeks ago. My wife and I named him after her grandfather and my great grandfather. I never knew my great grandfather Leonard. But I've been told that even when he was living in Białystok, Poland, living in fear of antisemitism and pogroms, he was.a happy man. Someone who would sing and hand out candies to children. I named my son Leonard because I knew tough times were ahead, and I wanted him to have the same strength, perspective, and joy as my great grandfather. And that's a good lesson for all of us. This is a very serious time. But it cannot rob us of our happiness.  It’s July 4th. A time that’s supposed to be a time of happiness and joy where we celebrate this country with our friends and family. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Not because I have any illusions about the situation we face. But because I refuse to let the people who are doing such great damage to our country ruin this day for me and my family. I love my country. I love what my country stands for. And for what it can be when it reaches its promise. And no matter how long it takes, we will make sure it does, together. God bless America. Happy fourth y’all. --Danny Miller

The root cause of so many of our problems is the size, scope, and cost of the federal government. Massive deficit spending devalued the dollar, driving 40-year high inflation. The solution: return to a reasonable pre-pandemic spending level.

Sorry for tweeting so much, but Twitter throttles out-bound links, so I'm trying this again. SoCal animal shelters are overwhelmed with people dropping off injured animals they can't take with them as they flee. Many are in need of volunteers, money, and foster homes 🧵

President @realDonaldTrump is right to end birthright citizenship by executive order on Day One. We are one of a handful of countries in the world that allows birthright citizenship. In other words, if you’re born in the United States, you’re automatically an American citizen. This and birth tourism from developed countries like China have become one of the biggest magnets for illegal immigration. I have introduced legislation to end birthright citizenship, and I am now working on a constitutional amendment to end the practice. I believe legal immigration is important to our economy and future. However, birthright citizenship and birth tourism are strong magnets for illegal immigration and cheapen American citizenship. I look forward to working with President Trump to go beyond his executive order and end this disastrous policy once and for all.

@paulajaynebyrne It's apparently only useful if you know more than it. I've quizzed Chat GPT on Jane Austen, and it tried to give me quotes from movies and lots of fan fiction.

The neat thing about midcentury neocolonial-style china and hammered aluminum "pewter" serving dishes is that you can kind of pretend you're having Thanksgiving in Jane Austen's day. Happy Thanksgiving! Find me mostly at the other bluer place - @KimWilsonAuthor.
