Addiction to sport. Hockey Fanatic. I mainly just pretend I know what I’m talking about and re-tweet sports drills so I can use them later. Aus🇦🇺

🥅 Goalscoring: Get in Front 2 forwards in circle, feeders call cone → lead & shoot, partner hunts rebounds. Prog: each cone = diff finish (roll & flick, reverse, FH, backspace). Focus: sharp leads, body shape to receive, quick release, react to 2nd phase. #Hockey

@JPR_25 Training: “does anything need to change?” Players know if the “game” (drill) is working. If they say it is, they have bought in, and applying effort. Sometimes they have said “too big” or such, it’s been valuable input, and we make changes.

@andreuenrich - loving the book so far. The chapter on pitch sizes for games (8v8 -> 4v4 ect) some of the descriptions I’m finding hard to follow. Is there a diagram you can share for those reading the book?

@JPR_25 Maddie Hinch spoke about this in your podcast - her warmups are as much mental/decision making as they are physical. She wants decisions, not repetition, when preparing for the game.

Decision-making isn’t taught — it’s trained. Give players decisions to make. You wouldn’t wait 20 minutes into a game to make a decision, so why wait in training?

@CoachDavidBaird Thanks, David! Just got off the pitch and ran this for an u14 Group (Hockey) I added two goalkeepers, one each end defending both goals (they love the running 😅) Was very even with it coming down to the last goal each time!

Considerations for this type of thing I’ve found are: 1) if they start doing it well, change it. 2: make passes longer than you “think”. Encourage a hard few steps of ball carrying. 3: after first progression, ask them if it’s working. They will tell you.
ONE Coaching@ONE_coaching_

Pass/receive: Y progression 3 for 1 'Y' shaped pass/receive patterns. Starting with a very simple 3 pass pattern, each sequence then builds in difficulty, adding an additional pass each time and all ending with a shot on goal.
