Saying Utah ‘needs an ICE facility’ while state officials weren’t even informed only underscores the irony of inviting a federal agency whose enforcement tactics have been violent, fear‑driven, and largely unaccountable into a state that values safe, thriving communities.
Lindsay Aerts@LindsayOnAir

NEW: @GovCox reiterated his belief that an ICE detention facility is needed in Utah, but also said he was "a little frustrated" that neither he, nor the delegation, nor the locals were notified by @DHSgov about the purchase. share.google/CEldKn5uPY1cZT…

Today's update: The Prop 4 repeal lost another 118 signatures in SD15, dropping the margin to 114 withdrawals that opponents need to get to keep the gerrymandering repeal off the ballot. They have until April 23 to get them.
Robert Gehrke@RobertGehrke

Despite a rushed change by the Lege making it harder to remove signatures, the margin for the Prop 4 repeal continues to narrow. It hinges on Senate District 15, where the margin has gone from 658 signatures to 232 signatures in a week. sltrib.com/news/politics/…

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV enrages MAGA world by declaring that "universal health coverage" is a "moral imperative" for society — destroying Republican talking points in a single blow. This is what real moral leadership sounds like... “Universal health coverage is not merely a technical goal to be achieved; it is primarily a moral imperative for societies that wish to call themselves just,” said Leo. The leader of the Catholic Church — a staunch opponent of the casual cruelty and apathy towards suffering that defines modern conservative movements — was speaking at at conference about healthcare inequality organized by the European bishops' council, Italian bishops' conference, and the World Health Organization. “Health cannot be a luxury for the few,” he said, because it “an essential condition for social peace.” “Healthcare must be accessible to the most vulnerable, not only because their dignity requires it but also to prevent injustice from becoming a cause of conflict,” the pope added. The speech was a potent counter-argument to the austerity measures favored in the United States, where countless Americans regularly go bankrupt due to medical debt. Democrats have long pushed for expanding healthcare, while Republicans oppose it on "fiscal responsibility" grounds when in reality they just want to funnel more money to the rich through plutocratic tax cuts and costly foreign wars. Pope Leo said that eliminating healthcare inequalities will be especially helpful to younger generations battling mental health "because invisible psychological wounds are no less severe than those that are visible." He warned that"distance, distraction and desensitization to the sight of violence and the suffering of others lead us toward indifference." "Yet all men and women, especially Christians, are called to fix their gaze on those who suffer: on the pain of the lonely, on those who for various reasons are marginalized and considered 'outcasts,' " he added. "For without them, we cannot build just societies founded on the human person." Predictably, right-wingers on social media are condemning Leo as a "communist" for daring to suggest that wealthy, modern, civilized nations should take care of their sick. What do you think? Please ❤️ and share if you support Pope Leo!

Host: Today, far worse news on prices than expected. Wholesale prices rose sharply in February, including food prices. That comes as Americans have been grappling with surging gas prices since the Iran war began.

GOP Sen. Rand Paul slams Markwayne Mullin for encouraging political violence: "You told the media that I was a freaking snake and that you completely understood why I had been assaulted ... I just wonder if someone who applauds violence against their political opponents is the right person to lead an agency that has struggled to accept limits to the proper use of force."

We are in deep trouble with this individual leading our country. We must take over the House and Senate in November.
Jim Stewartson, Decelerationist 🇨🇦🇺🇦🇺🇸@jimstewartson

Donald Trump told the story of how he decided on the war, which was that stock prices were so high he could afford to attack Iran. To get advice on the decision he asked Susie Wiles. Now you know why they had no clue the Strait of Hormuz would shut down. Try to read it. “We're doing great. I went to Susie my beautiful Susie Wiles. There's nobody like Susie. I went to Susie. Right? And everybody's with her and she's a great woman really she's a great woman. But I went to Susie. I always go to Susie. I said Susie do you mind if I take a little excursion here? Do you mind if I you know we're hitting all these records, right? Most more people are working in the United States today than ever before as I can name this I don't want to bore you Because this is all about Ireland but you're a big part of it because you're a big part of this country but I said do you mind if I take a little excursion my chief of staff because I want to do this. I have Marco here. We have a lot of our great people JD is here. They're all here and I say let's let's do this. We're gonna do it right should have been done by many presidents should have been done Long before 47 years. It's 40 years of living in terror You know, they're they're called the bully of the Middle East But they're really the bully of the world because he used oil to bribe right? He used oil to bribe and to you know gain power. I don't know what they gained. What are they gained? What the hell? How are they doing? Not so good. They're all gone now. Every one of them. They're all gone. We don't even know who to our biggest problem. We don't know who to deal with over here. I can call the speaker of the house He's so powerful. I can call him. I can make a deal maybe I can even call your Democrat counterpart this guy. I said to Kelly. What do you think of your counterpart? He said he's a great guy. This is Republican Democrat. I never thought I was gonna hear that about you. Let me shake your hand. When Kelly when Kelly tells me that I said that's the way it used to be You know, that's the way it not so long ago and maybe someday that's the way it'll be again. It's really great. But I said you mind of I take a little excursion Because we have to do something and it'll be a short term excursion? But we have all these great things going and we had to say you know, we could have. What could have gone up up? It was only going in one direction. But I think now it's gonna go much higher than it would have gone had we not taken this little journey. And so I appreciate all of the people that have worked with us I was not an easy decision to make we have a country that was hotter than any country anywhere in the world and Doing great in every way and I say oh, we have to put out this this cancer. It's a cancer We had to take that operation and we did and it was very successful and continues frankly as somebody said very they could leave today. And it would take ten years to rebuild the damage has been done. But I think we have to make it a little bit more permanent because no other president has to go through this and we shouldn't have any other President having to go through this kind of a thing and If they didn't want to do it if for some reason they didn't want to do it. Would have the same problem. We don't ever want to have that problem again Not with lunatics. We can't have lunatics controlling nuclear weaponry. So I just want to thank everybody.”

The willingness of Pope Leo to speak up about the circumstances we find ourselves in inspires me. Too often the leaders of our institutions just want to keep their heads down and ignore terrible things happening around them. Doing that enables wrongdoers.
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex

In the dramatic circumstances of war, information must guard against the risk of turning into propaganda. It is every journalist's duty to verify the news, so as not to become a megaphone for power. They must show the suffering that war always brings to populations, which entails showing the face of war and recounting it through the eyes of victims.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Utah News: Sen. Curtis responds to reports of ICE purchasing space in SLC to convert into a detention facility, citing concerns of “bypassing input from local leaders” “The decision to move forward with this facility via back-door negotiations … is shortsighted and likely counterproductive to supporting the strategic growth and long-term infrastructure plans of Salt Lake City’s west side,” Curtis tells me #utpol deseret.com/politics/2026/…
