@Trish_Crain The legislature’s next adjustment to the CHOOSE Act should be mandating that any private school accepting CHOOSE Act funds must accept any and all CHOOSE Act recipients.

@Trish_Crain That’s in line with what I expected. Families can CHOOSE only if they are chosen by the private schools as well.

@GovernorKayIvey @ALDailyNews Governor, please don’t leave out that not all who are interested in attending Montgomery Catholic will actually be allowed to enroll. The CHOOSE Act only works for those students whom private schools CHOOSE, as well. We don’t get to pick and CHOOSE in public schools.

Glad to see @ALDailyNews highlight the growing interest at Montgomery Christian School as Alabama expands school choice through education savings accounts. What’s happening there reflects what we’re seeing across our state as families embrace MORE education OPTIONS. #alpolitics

I’m confident that AHSAA Executive Director Heath Harmon and the governing board will be remembered for extinguishing the flame of competitiveness and abandoning any effort at simple fairness and good sportsmanship under their watch.  Rather than allowing CHOOSE act students to retain their eligibility, as the law requires, Harmon and the AHSAA have opted, instead, to segregate our public and private schools, which is punitive, wrong, and just plain hateful. The coaches participating in this boneheaded decision care only about winning championships, not about the high school athletes they are supposed to serve, the lessons about sportsmanship they are supposed to teach, and the simple respect and dignity that students and their parents deserve.

@matthewbmurphy @JayTownAlabama @willainsworthAL It would make sense for the AA private schools to be in 4-team areas. One team would still have long travel times because of 9 teams being in the south and 7 in the north. Other solution is uneven regions, but plenty of folks would gripe about that, too.

@KingsCoveColvin @JayTownAlabama @willainsworthAL I don’t care that they separated. My issue is they did a terrible job of making the regions in public and private. Everyone making this a have and have not thing. It’s about families not wanting to drive 8 hrs to watch their kid play.

@matthewbmurphy @JayTownAlabama @willainsworthAL Play area games on Friday like everyone else does. Play local public schools for non-area games during the week. Private school parents separated their kids from public schools long before the AHSAA ever did.

@JayTownAlabama @willainsworthAL Maybe the State of Alabama should expect litigation for funneling public dollars to private schools with unequal accountability requirements 🤷🏻‍♂️

@willainsworthAL The AHSAA can expect litigation for their unequal treatment of male and female athletes in non-public schools. The legislature has the ability to correct this injustice, stop the absurd penalties for private schools, and have a unified athletic system in Alabama.

Coach Forester laments the state separating public/private schools today, but the parents of private school students chose to separate their students long before today. The inability of some of these folks to see the hypocrisy in that is stunning.
Tyler Raley@traley34

With the news of the AHSAA splitting public and private schools during reclassification, Briarwood head football coach Matthew Forester is among the many faces of private institutions reacting to the monumental change in high school sports. Story: shelbycountyreporter.com/sports/matthew…

It’s become very trendy to crap on the Group of 5 programs. But Tulane and JMU had phenomenal seasons and should be applauded. But at the same time it is crystal clear the best outcome for everyone is to have a Group of 5 playoff and crown their own national champion.

Virginia should not be penalized as they played their way into the championship game. Clearly, they deserve Alabama’s spot.
