@ChicNStu Optimistic looks like... The Ducks and Flyers may have ushered in an era where teams can't/don't build teams into contention anymore. In a chaotic mercenary league where futures shift like the sands then anything is possible if you hit the right little groove.

@KingsMenPodcast Optimistic looks like what exactly. They make the playoffs and win a game or two in the first round. So basically the same thing we have been getting the past 6 years. Would much prefer a rebuild and missing the playoffs at this point.

It's taken me less than a week to go from very very pessimistic about the upcoming Kings season to actually fairly optimistic. And the Ducks situation helped out a bunch...

@KingsMenPodcast I don't think this will tank either team. Flyers had to put a big number and a less-than-max term on the table to have a shot. Carlsson will be worth this money in short order though maybe not next year. Ducks more of a big setback than a straight sinking.
