@JilMcIntosh @twitandrewking My mom had a 69 Ford LTD Country Squire, why my dad bought it for her still boggles my mind. I don't think it had the 3rd seat but what a tank. When I look back station wagons of that era certainly look as if they are as long as my present day Silverado crew cab.

@VoiceoverCop I get officers have discretion but running a red should be an automatic ticket. I was stopped several years ago for 71 in a 60. I hadn't had a speeding ticket in 21 yrs which the OPP officer of course verified when he ran my license. Despite that I still got a ticket for 11 over

The lucky ones get caught. Yesterday, I witnessed a traffic stop that happened right in front of my parked vehicle. As the driver pulled into the parking lot, I could hear her through the open window telling a friend on speakerphone that she was about to get pulled over and had to go. That immediately made me think she’d likely been on that call the entire time. The officer explained that she had been stopped for running a red light and nearly causing a collision. After checking her documents, the officer decided to issue a warning instead of a ticket. I spoke up and said, “You’re nicer than I am. I would’ve written the ticket.” The driver immediately responded with, “But I have a clean driving record.” And that’s exactly the problem. A clean driving record doesn’t always mean someone is a safe driver. Sometimes it just means the behaviour has never been documented. People often think distracted driving only means holding a phone in your hand. It doesn’t. You can absolutely be cognitively distracted while using hands-free or speakerphone features. Your eyes can be on the road while your brain is somewhere else entirely. If we don’t measure behaviour, we can’t improve behaviour. Tickets are not just about punishment. They create accountability. They create a documented history. They influence insurance rates. They identify patterns. They force people to reflect before that behaviour escalates into a serious collision that changes lives forever. Warnings have their place, but when someone runs a red light while distracted and nearly causes a collision, is a warning enough? What do you think? @VoiceoverCop Agree, I was like 3 blocks from my house on a Sunday night, didn't notice a police officer up from a 3 way stop. He stopped me saying I made a quick stop which I don't think I did. My clean record resulted in a warning. Plus he liked my then Mustang GT. It always pays to be nice.

@Kiotiman2 I believe in the discretion to write tickets rather than give warnings. 👍 of course there are places for warnings… When the driver forgets their licence at home is a perfect opportunity for a warning.

@LauraBabcock What other Premier do we know that would use public funds to appeal decision after decision because they didn't agree with the outcome. Only to lose when the decision was upheld.

@LauraBabcock Not to mention the number of Ontarians on a waiting list for a family doctor. Hopefully all those that sat on their hands the last time will vote the next time. Again the expression says it all fool me once shame on you, fool me twice well you know how it ends.

@alandrummond2 Typical Ford government health care spin that they hope will make people believe that they are actually doing something to relieve the wait times in the ER. If you don't see a case of head lice and corns you can have 2 lattes maybe even a quick nap Dr. Drummond. Only in Ontario.

Having not seen a case of head lice in the ER in the last decade or more I am truly looking forward to this initiative's stated goal of reducing the pressure in my department. Time to put my feet up and sip my latte.

@LauraBabcock We can only hope, and not soon enough, most sensible voters have had enough of Doug's folksy persona and see him for what he and is government really is corrupt, incompetent with a trail of lies and broken promises.
