Such sad, sad news about the passing of Alistair Darling. He was so solid and decent and honourable. Working with him through Better Together was one of the most professionally rewarding periods of my life. He gave no small amount of service to this country.

Alistair Darling led this country through extraordinarily difficult economic times and was a political giant respected across parties. Scotland is proud to call him a son. Sending so much love to his family who have lost him too soon.

I am beyond saddened to learn of the passing of Alistair Darling, a colleague, a friend and a role model of decency & dedicated public service. My heart goes out to Maggie, Calum & Ann. Scotland has lost one of its finest sons.

I am deeply saddened by the death of Alistair Darling. I, like many relied on his wisdom, calmness in a crisis and his humour. I send my deepest condolences to his loving wife Maggie and their children Calum and Anna. He will be missed by all who knew him.
