This is actually a completely normal and common conversation actors have with directors all the time. David was just trying to get into the character’s mindset and was a little frustrated he wasn’t getting it until the end

Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira says the ending of Supergirl was decided early on because the comic book ends with Ruthye killing Krem. "the comic ends with Ruthye killing [Krem], but in the far, far future. We knew we weren’t gonna be able to do that kind of time jump, and I find it’s quite a dark ending of the comic. He essentially has changed, and she kills him anyway, because she still just has this anger, and you understand there’s this element of deserve, right? So, we wanted to craft a villain who would deserve this, but we also wanted Kara to care about preserving Ruthye’s innocence, and to feel like she could take on [killing him], that she could be the one to bring justice to this man, and do it without burdening this child. @AxelTalksFilm Does the comic leave it ambiguous? Yes. Does CIA King tell us what happens, also yes. Sure from an adaptation point it's not great but the movie itself there is logic to the ending and with so many changes including what this movie IS broadly speaking, the OG ending doesn't work.

@henrylethm The difference is this was a direct adaptation of one story, the other comic movies are usually original stories with bits and pieces taken from different stories from the characters histories. That’s why it’s hard not to compare Superwoman to the comic.
