The Department of Biological Science, Yaba College of Technology, today embarked on an academic field visitation to the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA). The visit, led by the Supervising Lecturer, Mrs. Edeghagba B.O, involved graduating students and was aimed at strengthening their practical understanding of analytical procedures and techniques used in the determination of air, water, and soil samples. The students were warmly received by members of the agency's management team. During the visit, heads of various departments and units took turns to educate the students on the functions and responsibilities of their various Departments /Units These included the Air Quality and Emission Control Unit, Monitoring and Compliance Unit , Hydrocarbon and Gas Storage Unit, Research and Development Department, Chemicals and Hazardous Materials Management (CHMM), Laboratory Services Department, Engineering Department and Land and Water Pollution Control Unit and Noise Pollution Control Unit . Each representative gave detailed explanations on their department's operations, providing real-world context to the theoretical knowledge gained by the students in class. The highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the agency’s ISO-certified Environmental Laboratory. The students visited various specialized units within the Laboratory Services Department, including the Portable Water Laboratory, Land and Soil/Air and Noise Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Waste Water Laboratory, and the Sensitive Laboratory. At each unit, the students were introduced to modern equipment, testing protocols, sample collection, and analysis procedures critical to environmental monitoring and protection. The Department of Biological Science of Yaba College of Technology expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the agency for their hospitality, knowledge-sharing, and support in making the visit a success. The agency, in turn, commended the institution for its commitment to developing industry-ready graduates through practical learning initiatives.
