@guyfelicella Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong. We'll find out in October. Why does a referendum scare you so much, if you are so certain of your position?

@MasterMaliq We don't hate Muslims, we hate what they do. Stop the killings, terror acts, demands for special privileges, child/forced marriages, treating women as chattel, all the other culturally "enriching" practices, publicly denounce those things, and we'll get along fine.

Radical Muslims are less than 1% of 2 BILLION Muslims. Yet you people judge the entire religion by the actions of a tiny minority? Be honest you just hate Muslims. Period.

@trainofangels00 Oh. My. God. Tell me you know nothing about the military of any NATO country without telling me you know nothing about the military of any NATO country. Also, you have no idea about nuclear deterrence, diplomacy, or interoperability. This must be a joke post for engagement.

If the United States decides to leave NATO, the remaining countries will have to act to protect themselves, most likely turning Canada into the ultimate northern base for a new alliance. Without America's military, steadfast allies like the UK, France, and Germany would move massive amounts of artillery, advanced fighter jets, and military equipment directly onto Canadian soil to secure the Arctic and protect vital trade routes. Crucially, surviving nuclear-armed nations like the United Kingdom and France would most likely choose to station part of their nuclear deterrents inside Canada to replace the lost American nuclear umbrella. This massive shift would rapidly transform Canada from a quiet military participant into the highly armed, central powerhouse of a deeply unified, post-American NATO. By hosting these massive amounts of foreign troops, jets, and weapons, Canada would show the world that the remaining allies are fully committed to standing strong and defending each other, even without the United States. Allies will stand together no matter the circumstances. Canada's trustworthy NATO allies are always welcome on our soil. Together we stand, together we defend, together we carry on. 🇨🇦 #canpoli

The more research you do into Mark Carney (and his wife’s) decades long career in influencing markets… manufacturing crisis, and getting rich off of the end result—the more I’m beginning to think he is the Green Goblin of Canada.

ExpressVPN, @torproject, Tuta, Mozilla, @EFF and Mullvad, alongside 13 other organizations advocating for digital privacy rights, have published an open letter. In the letter, they express serious concerns regarding the age verification measures planned for implementation across the internet following the introduction of a new child protection law. The organizations argue that forcing users to prove their age across most websites and online services could severely undermine privacy, anonymity, and the open nature of the internet. The central message of the letter is that protecting children should not come at the cost of jeopardizing the freedom, security, and privacy of all internet users. The signatories are calling for more balanced, privacy preserving solutions to be developed instead. The 19 organizations that signed the letter are: 1- Big Brother Watch 2- Defend Digital Me 3- Electronic Frontier Foundation 4- ExpressVPN 5- Gamers Voice 6- Global Partners Digital 7- Index on Censorship 8- Internet Society 9- Mozilla 10- Mullvad 11- IPVanish 12- NO2ID 13- Open Rights Group 14- Privacymatters 15- Proton 16- Stop Killing Games 17- Tor Project 18- Tuta 19- VPN Trust Initiative

🚨 Canada’s Bill C-22 is here & it’s the same surveillance bill from last year's failed C-2. 🚨 What does this mean? ❌ Your metadata would be stored by electronic service providers - for example messaging and email providers - for up to 12 months. ❌ The government would force these companies to build surveillance capabilities directly into their platforms. The government calls it “lawful access” but we know that forcing providers to enable access to encrypted data puts EVERYONE'S privacy & security at risk. 😡 Because we know that there is no backdoor for the good guys only! Help us fight for Canadian's privacy & say no to this surveillance bill. Send a letter to reject Bill C-22 here 👉 internetsociety.org/our-work/inter… #Canada #CanadaBill #Surveillance

If Danielle Smith announces a referendum on separation tomorrow, despite all that has happened, with stolen voter data and lack of First Nations approval, I will start making plans to leave Alberta. It's that simple. I think many others will as well. #abpol

After suffering the longest and most aggressively prosecuted mischief trial in Canadian history, Tamara Lich (@LichTamara) is now suing the police and Crown for malicious prosecution and negligent investigation. She was found guilty of mischief for her role in the 2022 Freedom Convoy in Ottawa and given an 18-month conditional sentence including 100 hrs of community service and 12 months of house arrest, followed by 6 months of curfew. A condition of her pretrial release was zero contact with other convoy organizers, although she had been granted permission to attend an award ceremony where other organizers would be, provided she was in the company of her lawyer (which she was). Despite this, a photo was taken at the event of her with another convoy organizer which brought about an immediate Canada-wide warrant for breaching bail conditions. She was quickly arrested and transported back to Ottawa where she was held without bail until her trial. Tamara Lich had no prior criminal history and consistently promoted peaceful assembly throughout the convoy protest; a fact acknowledged by the courts. By pursuing maximum penalties against non-violent organizers like herself and Chris Barber, while typical mischief cases result in far less, authorities have effectively weaponized the justice system to chill dissent. Compare this to countless recent reports of repeat violent offenders being released with a slap on the wrist and it’s easy to see that she was being made an example of. “This isn’t just about me,” Lich stated. “It’s about stopping this kind of abuse so no Canadian ever faces it again.” Her lawsuit seeks to reaffirm that the Charter stands above all, protecting peaceful protest, fair process, and equal application of the rule of law. Our Charter is not ambiguous on these matters. If we do not correct the actions of our government and judiciary now, and demand accountability, those willing will continue their efforts to suppress our rights and freedoms. We fully support Tamara’s fight for justice. Tamara has launched a GiveSendGo campaign to fund this effort. You can donate by clicking the link; givesendgo.com/my-stand-again…

▪️You don’t have to commit a crime. ▪️Someone just has to argue that you MAY cause alarm or distress in the future. ▪️You may not know that one has been applied for against you. ▪️It could involve banning you from going to certain places. ▪️Breaching it will be an offence and could result in a prison sentence. This is the classic Chinese Communist Party social credit system which they use to control citizens. Expressing the wrong opinion, supporting opposing political parties, getting into debt etc - they all result punishment. This is what Starmer and his Labour government want in BRITAIN.

@mark_slapinski Your nuanced and well articulated argument has certainly won me over. Who knew that the key to persuasion was to insult those who hold different opinions? Come on. You can do better, Mark. After all, you are clearly our moral and intellectual superior.

Regarding Canada's Bill C-22: @ProtonVPN is Swiss. Complying with foreign surveillance orders without Swiss legal process is a criminal offence. Not happening. We'll defend our Canadian users and never compromise them. We will fight C-22's application by every means available.

The government doesn't need a warrant to track you. Your finances, movements, even whom you pray with, protest with, or sleep with — it can just be bought from data brokers. It's because of the 3rd-Party Doctrine loophole. Here's how the loophole works, and how it can be closed.

Admission. I was born in '49 in the UK and for most of my life I have been apolitical and most would have probably pegged me as a centrist leaning a little left. I voted for the first time while living in England early 70's and found it absurd that the man whom I voted for, who had the most votes did not win the election. OK, something is not right here I thought. I totally did not understand the political/parliament workings but did not vote again for decades. Fast forward to the Obama era. Along came this man with his charisma and all that shit. To a degree I fell for it. Enter Trudeau. I voted for the second time in my life. At first there was no real difference to life in Canada and I left the country for 5 years paying zero attention to any politics. When I returned to Canada 22/23 I was floored. What the fuck happened? It was then I opened the Pandora's box and realized what a mess we are in. I now understood why Mum and Dad were conservative and I have realized my errs of the past. FORGIVE ME. I have become a strong supporter of conservative values and hope for the future. I obviously voted that way last year and will continue to do so until I leave this fucked up world. At this point I believe Pierre Poilievre and his team are our only hope for Canada to mend. Now, even though my political views have not really changed immensely, I am considered by many a far right extremist! The meme below explains. I will not give up for our country, she is worth saving. But I will say this, if things do not change soon, I do not have a problem with Alberta and Saskatchewan forming there own identity.
