While I'm not against celebrating our new hires, it does reinforce the "we're trying really hard [and isn't that enough?]" narrative. This needs to be paired with net numbers, reflecting gains, losses (and there have been many, with many more to come), and progress towards actual targets based on needs. Recruitment is not at a fast enough pace, retention is a serious crisis that is getting worse, and there's an utter lack of transparency when it comes to the overall picture.
