One of the biggest mistakes you can make as an artist is focusing only on your OC. Nobody knows who your OC is, what they’ve done, or why they should care, so it’s not hard to understand why people don’t care about the character or the artist. That doesn’t mean you can never make OC content. OC content can absolutely work, but usually only after you already have a core audience or a decent follower base. If you don’t have that yet, then no one has a reason to be invested. The fastest way to grow from zero is still through fan art.

@Tarmhell @TKohoto I have some OCs with a very small fan base, but they're there and I'm happy they are. I also understand people find fanart a lot more interesting and that's just how things go when you're small and unknown.

@TKohoto Or, you can base your whole account on your OC interacting with other OCs and make friends that genuinely love him. *Note you gain followers slowly, but I meet so many great people it changed my life.
