Office of The Director Of Public Prosecutions
DPP Ingonga, UNODC Align Priorities to Advance Rule of Law in Kenya The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW today hosted a delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) led by Regional Representative Ali Elbereir, in a meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration and advancing justice sector reforms. The engagement provided an opportunity to formally introduce the newly appointed regional coordinator while also reviewing existing areas of cooperation between the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and UNODC. Discussions focused on enhancing ongoing partnerships and identifying new avenues for collaboration to improve the effectiveness of prosecutorial services in Kenya. The DPP expressed appreciation for UNODC’s sustained support to the ODPP, particularly through the Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery (PLEAD). He noted that the programme has significantly contributed to strengthening prosecutorial capacity through targeted training initiatives, provision of critical equipment, and logistical support. Among the notable interventions highlighted was the facilitation of a boat to support prosecutorial activities in Lamu, as well as assistance in establishing county prosecution offices to enhance access to justice at the grassroots level. The discussions also centered on aligning priority interventions for the year ahead, with both parties exploring opportunities to scale up support in key thematic areas. Emphasis was placed on defining clear targets and expected outcomes under the second phase of the programme, PLEAD II, to ensure measurable impact across the justice sector. #HakiNaUsawa
