Reading the responses to this here vs on BSky is one of those things that shows you the most clearly how ignorant and depraved the overall user base of this website is I hope one day fighting games and the community can exist with the same moral clarity as speedrunning does

GDQ claims that it decided to cancel the SNK streams in response to the expectations of its community. Yet, considering that its official tweet generated two million views and thousands of negative comments following the cancellation, it is fair to question whether this decision truly reflected the will of the community or whether it instead came from part of GDQ’s staff. If some members of the organization disapprove of the policies pursued by Saudi Arabia, they should direct their criticism at the Saudi government, not at a company that was simply acquired. The way GDQ chose to terminate this partnership was also particularly unfair. In this case, GDQ was actively looking for a sponsor, and SNK responded positively by agreeing to provide funding for Médecins Sans Frontières in exchange for streams featuring its games. Internal disagreements within GDQ then led to the unilateral cancellation of the program, even though the streams had already begun. GDQ brought politics into gaming when there was no need to do so, creating a situation that could easily have been avoided. No one can seriously believe that GDQ did not know who owned SNK. The organization was actively seeking a sponsor and now claims that it failed to properly examine SNK’s ownership structure before signing the agreement. GDQ’s attitude is disgraceful because it is making SNK bear the responsibility for what certain members of its staff object to about the Saudi government. That makes no sense. SNK is neither the spokesperson nor the political instrument of the Saudi government. Its acquisition was, above all, a strategic investment. Unilaterally terminating the agreement with SNK is also unacceptable. GDQ first accepted the partnership and launched the streams, then decided to reject the money while publicly damaging the company’s image. Such behavior could cost GDQ dearly with future sponsors. By presenting itself as an activist organization capable of abruptly abandoning an already established partnership, GDQ is making every other sponsor wonder whether the same thing could happen to them. people only moralize over SNK's saudi ownership because their values only kick in when they don't personally care about the games they've put out. if this shit really mattered you'd stop taking sponsorships from any company with any saudi ownership stake entirely.
