It's barely worth it. I could default on my mortgage and never get evicted and get 650 a week in handouts, plus whatever I earn doing nixers.

A huge share of employees in Ireland fall into the top personal (income) tax band, levied at over 50% all in. This means that the government takes more of any pay increase and additional non-salary income than the individual does. This regime, in place for 18 years, is a brutal disincentive to work and explains why Ireland's personal tax system is ranked 37th out of 38 in the developed world.

Ireland's personal taxation regime is the second worst among 38 peer countries according to the Tax Foundation. High marginal taxes (paid at very modest thresholds) have been in place since 2008. There has been almost no improvement over two decades despite having the resources to do so - a relentless rise in government expenditure has been prioritised year after year. A simple example illustrates how bad it is. The average electrician or plumber working for construction company will be on the top marginal rate, whereby the state takes more of every additional euro than the person gets to keep. If he/she wants to earn self employed income, the government will take more than the worker, and a tax return will have to be filed, involving time and/or accountancy fees. Is it any wonder finding tradespeople is hard?

All those that stuck to democracy - Brazil, Mexico, Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, the list goes on - are violent, unequal states that are lagging heavily behind.

Correct. Democracy is a sham that is not a pre requisite for development and is often simply a way to keep the same elites rotating in power, not to mention its openness is championed by the west so it can more easily interfere in elections. You cannot develop without a 10-20 year national plan that’s unimpeded. Democracy ensures you’ll never develop, in fact democracy in the global south is a greatest predictor of violence. Build political systems that work for you, not ones invented by slave owners in the North Atlantic.

@BBCWorld Many of our ancestors in Africa practised real democracy in its truest form. They agreed on how they wanted to be governed. Which is the first step. Then they selected those who would represent them as leaders eg elders/family heads. You may not agree with their selection methods

Domestic sectors suffer chronic shortages, talent loss.,and HSE queues etc from disincentives

This may appear positive until you consider the impact of hard work not being sufficiently rewarded and the fact that we Ireland has become a magnet for people doing low paid work because they keep more of the money they get as well as welfare benefits.
