@emilykmay Before my kids go to grandmas, my mom sometimes sends pics of the ricotta pancakes, or whatever treats she’s made specifically for them, in anticipation of their arrival. It’s all very sweet

my favorite thing about my mom is that she makes everything cozy. we're taking the kids to spend the night at my grandmother's tonight and my mom is sending me pics of the little floor beds she has set up for each of my kids 🥺

@JakeWoodTR This is likely a document or training that lives in combination with their local law enforcement agency (hopefully!) Equally, I would recommend asking about how the school manages and identifies threats, before something happens.

Just emailed my daughter's school and asked to review their active shooter policy. Not something my parents had to do three decades ago.

@lizgiorgi Also a parent with young kids. Putting together some questions & resources that parents should ask and consider about safety and security, happy to share.

It's selfish, but it's how I think about it: Now that I have a daughter, I seriously question whether it is safe to send a child to a school. It feels critical to strongly consider home schooling based on our government's complete unwillingness to do a damn thing about it.

As a Hokie, sending love and support to all connected to the @uva community. Regardless of where you were on campus, take time to reach out to friends, fellow professors students and family. Healing has just begun. This will take time, many of us will always be here to support.
