Happy Chanuka everyone (It was Edie's first ever night of Chanuka, and first time making latkes)

Horrified by news out of Sydney this morning. Violent antisemitism taking so many lives at a Chanuka celebration, not unlike one my family may join here in Toronto. I lack the words to articulate my sadness. I pray for the health of the injured and the families of those affected

All of the mezuzas at 6250 Bathurst Street (TSHC) have been torn off. We have spoken with the rabbi and connected the building with 32 Division. This is an act of hate directed at Jewish residents — seniors who deserve safety, stability, and dignity in their own homes. There is no excuse for targeting people because they are Jewish. Toronto cannot look the other way while seniors are intimidated in their hallways. We will continue working with residents, Toronto Seniors Housing, and police until safety is restored. Tried to take my family to Shabbat services this morning and a group of masked men with Canada patches were filming us. Cops there said it was to get a rise for social media. Awful experience especially with family services on, and sad to see the flag used for intimidation

I am deeply relieved. Let this bring solace to the hostages and their loved ones, who have held their breath for the last 737 days. Let this be the first stepping stone to lasting peace.

The shadow of today hangs heavy. Families torn apart, escalating violence and hate here and abroad. I beg for an end to this, for a lasting two state solution, free from the pain that has impacted generations, for the release of the hostages, for real peace and an end to this war

Alongside Prime Minister @markjcarney and my colleague @lesliechurch, I visited the Nova Exhibit again today, it retells the brutal massacre carried out by Hamas on Oct. 7th. We heard from survivors and families. I encourage as many people as possible to attend the @novaexhibition and not only learn about what happened that horrific day but also about the resiliency of the survivors.

Heartbreaking. My heart goes out to those hurt and the families of those impacted. Incidents like this shake a community to its core. I share in the hope we can see the scourge of gun violence rid from our city.
