In 2002, I climbed Mt. Washington and set a record that changed my life. 7.6 miles. 4,500 feet. 12% grade. Time: 49:24. I was 23. A former MTBer from East Lyme, CT. That day I beat Tyler Hamilton’s record, he set right after he finished 4th at the Tour de France. It launched everything. My first pro contract with Saturn. A call from Lance. And eventually, my first WorldTour contract with Fasso Bortolo. A lot has happened in the 24 years since. My career was launched and lost. The identity that came and went with it. Cancer. A partial amputation. Lost fitness. Years of not knowing who I was without the bike. I’m not sure I can do this. That’s the truth. Sub-49 on Mt. Washington has never been done. There are so many reasons I’m not the guy for it. I’m 48. Dad of 5. Partial amputee. Business owner. Coming back from 11 years away from hard training. But the audaciousness behind the attempt is the whole point. And this time I have something I didn’t have in 2002. My own TTM Performance Model. Now as a coach I’m putting my money where my mouth is. My TTM doesn’t sugarcoat anything. It lays out the gap between where I am today and where I need to go in stark detail from to power, zone duration, durability, weight, mental strength, technique. Every facet and milestone, each point on the progression is mapped out. My hope is that it takes me somewhere I stopped believing was possible. For me, that place is becoming a world class climber. See you August 15, 2026. 🌙

Hi @lufthansa I’ve been flying your airline for professional cycling for 22 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. You somehow crushed my bike vertically, snapping my frame, and destroying my crank driving it through the bottom of the bike box while bending the bikes axel. Unreal. I can’t even imagine what kind of force or weight would have to be applied from above to do this. I have successfully used this soft case from Scicon (as do 1000s of other cyclists) for all of my flights since 2003. There was nothing in the case and the frame was wrapped with protective foam. Super frustrating to pay for a trip, pay extra for my bike to travel, and then have my bike show up crushed on arrival. There are a lot of cyclists like me who travel from Denver to Europe to ride who would think to use @lufthansa . Should they expect their bikes to show up broken like mine?

@tomdanielson Done listening! Great stuff! 2cents: 1) will be nice to intro a brief one on the race context (e.g. dauphine as a tune-up race 4 tdf). Ave cycling fans will know this, but new fan not 2) pls give more airtime to Kourtney, i think she’ve got good takes there, too.

Leadville Trail 100 MTB descending tips. Last week we ascended up to 12,000 feet for a little course reconnaissance before the CINCH athletes tackle the Leadville Trail 100 MTB. Below are some of the insights and tips we gathered from descending the course. 1. Maintain the "attack position," - Bend your elbows and knees, and lower your chest toward the handlebars. This position gives you better weight distribution, control and absorbs bumps and vibrations.
 2. Stay loose - Keep a relaxed grip on the handlebars to absorb vibrations and impacts. Let the bike move independently beneath you. Avoid gripping the top tube with your legs.  3. Pedal every opportunity you have - Capitalize on every chance you have to build momentum and therefore speed by pedaling whenever possible.
 4. Don’t marry one line - The best line constantly changes on this course. Choose the smoothest and safest line through the technical sections even if that means changing it. 5. Feather the rear brake when you feel unsure - Feather the brakes instead of squeezing them abruptly, especially on loose or slippery surfaces, to prevent skidding and maintain traction.  6. Look far ahead - Keep your eyes focused on the trail ahead, look for obstacles, changes in terrain, the best line to follow and riders coming the other direction. 7. When in doubt, go straight - You will inevitably make mistakes, lose traction, and feel uncomfortable. Remember that a straight line equals stability on a bicycle so rather than brake or change directions when in doubt ride it out.  8. Flow don’t force - There will always be friction with other riders, finding lines in steep terrain, getting down rough downhills. Don't get stuck forcing yourself in tough situations. Visualize yourself as water on your bike. Going where it needs to go, flexible, unbothered, and powerful. 9. Stay off the brakes in the corners. - Approach corners with controlled speed. Feather the brake before entering the corner, and then release the brakes as you lean your bike into the turn. 10. Trust your bike -  Remember your bike is made for this, know that your frame, tires, fork, and shock is designed for rough terrain and it’s ok to to hit stuff and hit it fast. Lastly, at some point, you just have to send it! For more tips and programs please visit our website cinchcycling.cc

Sloane’s first flight. The look she is giving me is the same the look the guy that sat next to us on the plane gave us. 🙃
