Oyo Abd¥ction: Show Empathy and Apologise to the Victims for Failing to Provide Adequate Security — UN Envoy Jimoh Ibrahim Tells Gov. Makinde Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Chairman of the UN Fifth Committee on Budgetary and Administrative Matters, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to prioritise good governance and take responsibility following the abd¥ction of schoolchildren in the state. Congratulating Nigerians on the safe release of the pupils and their teachers, Ibrahim said the governor should apologise to the victims for the government’s failure to provide adequate security and show empathy toward those affected. Reacting to Makinde’s call for the United Nations to investigate the kidn@pping, the UN envoy stated that the organisation does not interfere in the internal affairs of member states or investigate domestic incidents. He stressed that security should remain a shared responsibility for all state governments and called on governors across the country to strengthen measures aimed at protecting lives and property. Ibrahim also appealed to the Oyo State Government to award scholarships to the rescued pupils, covering their education through all levels, and to provide adequate support for the families of the teachers who lost their lives during the incident. According to him, if the state requires financial assistance to support the victims, it should make its needs known, adding that Nigerians are willing to contribute toward securing the children’s future.
