I'm sure "The Odyssey" will do great but, FACTS: Production: $250M Marketing: $125M Distribution/other costs: $25–50M Total investment: $400–425M Also, studios do not keep 100% of ticket sales - they ultimately receive about 50% of worldwide box office (more domestically, less internationally). So if total costs are: $400 million, breakeven = $800 million worldwide $425 million, breakeven = $850 million worldwide And for anyone who claims it only needs $375–500 million to break even, that implies Universal spent nothing for the nationwide/global marketing campaign, and that theatres take no part of that box office. Just wanted to get this out there before the lies start.

Yes I think that is more realistic. Again I think it needs to make well over a billion to be considered a success. It turns out casting was the least problem-Nolan took an epic and made it meh, he erased heroism and made it modern. He took something that even a mediocre director given that budget could have made a masterpiece and made a film NO ONE will remember next year. Just like Spielberg (who hasn’t made a good film in a decade or more) Nolan has proved that Father Time does us all in.

@FreddyInSpace I don't think that's the case? There are tons of movies that I can't stop hearing good things about? I haven't heard a single negative thing about movies like Obsession or Weapons? I think there are some pretty fair criticisms being thrown around about The Odyssey.

I implore everyone to stop fanning the flames of the online smear campaigns that target pretty much every major movie release these days. It's almost always a very small pocket of bad faith clowns who really only have a voice because we can't stop handing them the megaphone.
