Say it with me... geeks don't like when their immersion is broken.
People don't want the Joker to be a bigot, they want him to not care about bigotry because that would make sense to the character. If a monster like the Joker is written to care about bigotry, it's only because the writer cares, and that breaks immersion.
It's also ridiculous to try and paint bigotry as being a worse offense than the atrocities the Joker has done. It makes the writer look desperate at best and evil at worst.
