A look at Dok Ondar’s in Galaxy’s Edge West as of today. Nearly all of the sequel trilogy merchandise has been switched out, but Kylo Ren’s lightsaber remains available. In a change from when the land opened, some items say “Star Wars” or have show titles printed on them.

@NickHutsonMusic Music works in some areas but not the whole land. Sometimes less is more.

I’ve always been torn on whether music makes a world more “immersive” or whether a land can just down with merely sound design. This is proof that non diegetic music always wins over diegetic sound design.

@ianmSC The land already had original score composed for the land by John Williams playing in it, but it was carefully placed. This is just slapping a music loop in the background and calling it a day.

Disney had access to one of the most iconic scores in film history with Star Wars and basically refused to use it because Kathleen Kennedy thought fans would care more about the new trilogy than the original And it took 6 years to fix their mistake

@ParaduxMcFly @GiganticCranium It feels like a temporary Season of the Force change, but this is permanent. We’re stuck with this bad decision.

@GiganticCranium Its not a permanent change so im fine with it. But yeah, i prefer the ambient sounds/music over the star wars theme constantly blasting at you. I wish avengers campus did the same. I dont need to constantly hear the avengers theme over and over again.

I love Star Wars just as much as anyone, but I don’t love this change of having the music playing throughout Batuu. The layered, detailed soundscape that changed from day to night was what really immersed people & made it feel like you were truly experiencing Star Wars

@GiganticCranium Bingo. Music during dramatic situations works. Just slapping a playlist on a loop and calling it atmosphere is cheap (ie Avengers Campus).

@laughingplace @Disneyland So they left one part of Galaxy’s Edge not feeling like a mall. A shame they replaced the original transition music under the bridge with a track we’ve heard 1000 times before.

Interestingly, the only area without John Williams music blaring is the Resistance Base, though it is very faintly audible here as well behind the sound effects. #GalaxysEdge #Disneyland

@laughingplace @Disneyland The music works somewhat here because of the Falcon and various characters. Elsewhere it sticks out like a sore thumb. There needs to be a balance.

Love hearing John Williams classic film score playing in SWGE. It helps bridge the gap between the world of the films and reality. Should have been done from the start at a minimal.
