Grandfather passed away of old age overnight. We knew it was coming and got to say goodbye many times but it still sucks so much. He was still very lucid last time I visited in May, he loved to ask about crypto and got a kick out of it for some reason. He didn’t understand AI but I used Grok to animate an old picture of his parents and he smiled like a kid when he saw the video. Never seen him smile like that. He was an academic but never cared much for money. His body gave out two years before his mind, which is a testament to who he was. Always curious, always learning. I remember when I was little he would just sit there and talk at lengths about all kinds of topics. I didn’t appreciate it then, but I wish I had. This obviously changed as I got older, and I cherish all the time we got to spend together these last two years that he was bedridden. We got him an Alexa unit and he loved asking it stuff. He also loved listening to AM radio. I visited a few times a year. I wish I had called more often. He lived a very full life. He had 4 kids, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He was my last living grandparent. The older you get the more you deal with loss. You’d think it’d get easier but it doesn’t, you just get more used to it. Things make more sense but the feelings stay the same. Descansa en paz, Abuelito 💜
