The opposite, actually. Genocide (or anything that's horrible) in fiction is a feature, not a bug. It's a simulation of the experience. Either as intense escapism, or a reflection of reality. It would be tone deaf to not call a genocide a genocide, just like saying 'unalived' is.

Watching Warcraft drift toward a cozycore, more whimsical tone while its faction identity fades has been hard to see.
I really thought we had hope when Metzen returned, but nothing has changed?
I miss the epic, brutal escapism this franchise used to offer.

imo, The Arcantina feels like the canary in the coal mine for where Warcraft’s tone is heading. It leans into a whimsical, cozycore vibe that just doesn’t feel like Warcraft anymore.
A shame, because it looks stunning. Imagine if it had uneasy faction tensions inside, with brawls breaking out in the lower levels. ⚔️🔴🔵

I think the copium optimist is an objectively bad take because we've been getting kicked in the teeth with awful lore for the last, like, 5 expansions.
The majority of the lore additions have sucked, the major story beats are ass.
If you STILL trust Blizz, it's kinda nuts.

Looks like the copium (pessimist) versus copium (optimist) war continues on the lore stage. As an optimist I can't really say who's got the more accurate pov, but I can sorta take a step back and identify who looks miserable

Rituals seem neet! And I'm happy to level alts etc through Assaults. Other features are neat too! Let's hope it lands in a good state.

I need people to stop saying the story is “hitting shadowlands levels of bad.” as i’ve said previously, “shadowlands levels of bad” means obliterating your *entire* setting for no reason, poor character writing unfaithful to 20 years, and the jailer. we are not there. lol.

For the first time in a long time, I actually feel despair for the game I love and have invested most of my life into. I thought I could sleep off this plot, but even today, while shopping, I saw WoW merch, and instead of that little spark of excitement, I just felt dread. (1/2)

Cozy fantasy is a recently new-ish subgenre that has permeated through a lot of material made by younger writers and writers with small children. To each their own, but those vibes are not for me at all.
Personally, I love when my fantasy is metal as fuck. 🤘

Idk if i can hold out until The Last Titan. Ever since Shadowlands it's been "just wait and see" or, "the next expac will be better".
I'm tired.
The ethos of WoW, set by the narrative, used to draw you in and keep you playing, even through major content droughts.

All of the story criticism aside, I’ve had so much fun playing Midnight and all of its contents - leveling, raids, dungeons, delves, HOUSING, transmog - feel like a lot of these features have never played better

Feeling like this too about World of Warcraft story... Blizzard doesn't really seem to care about it so why should I.
The endgame has felt great, but I really hoped the Shadowlands era of writing was behind us. Oh well.

Thanks for coming to the stream everyone. My relationship with WoW will change now. I will find other ways to enjoy the game now, like achievements and collecting and such. I will put more minimal effort into the story, I think. I will also become a variety streamer.

somewhat unfair rageposting aside, I think WoW's got a few issues in how they work
1) they don't seem to set a tone and stick to it
Nadia Brighton's dialogue in the Voidspire lead-up was so out of place it genuinely angered me. "This. Is. Ah-may-zing!", really? What the fuck?
