@BettyAiProject As someone who has invested in both onchain digital identities and DNS, I concur. But this is not about "replacement". DNS is for the human user. But what do we mean by emerging "agentic economy"? What will non-human AI agents need to identify them better in the digital world..?

They were dead since day one I have said so strongly and consistently. … and took plenty of abuse for it. Web3 “domains” were never a replacement. They were just ANOTHER shiny object detour. But this is how you gain business acumen. Being burnt a few times. Then you start looking at things a little bit more critically and stop swallowing the bait. Real domains are about clarity, navigation, and trust. That never changed. .COM is still king. Always has been. And the same people chasing Web3… missed .AI too. The loudest critics are usually the last to figure it out. Funny how things come full circle.

Most patrons of other web3 domains do not care about UDfam. They are concern trolls who want their competition to fail and to say "told you so". UDfam will make a lot of money with the web2 pivot if successful. The secondary market for other web3 names likely remains stagnant.

@ChessurNFT What they should do, however, is to come out with some Q&A about this whole situation. The current uncertainty and the lack of clarity, especially for .tlds that apply to ICANN, is not helpful.

No answer to my three questions so far: x.com/i/status/20338… Here's what plays a role as well: - id . agent was sold for 50k on the UD marketplace - a 50k offer for ai . agent was turned down That got some trad. people nervous, obviously. There is no other explanation but that UD was instructed to "make this less visible". No high price listings anymore. "We don't want this kind of attention. It's not good for .com." So you tell your little servants in the oil room what to do.
Krypto@Recht@KryptoRecht

I would like to know then: - refund rounds for the remaining TLDs that will not apply to ICANN and which have not been refunded yet ? - why has the marketplace been changed to not show any past sales and any recent listings anymore? Which ICANN rule would prescribe that? - why does the user have to actively click on "Show Web3 TLDs" to unhide them? Which ICANN rule would mandate a registrar to initially hide all Web3 TLDs?

I'm not sure if I have said this before explicitly. But for what it's worth from a UD whale since 2021, here are my two cents on @unstoppableweb Let me start with agreeing with a comment Andrew @andrewrosener made recently that smart people change their minds in the face of better data. He was referring to Matt's @mattgould business decision to pivot from web3 to DNS domains. The decision came two years ago (roughly) at a time when it was clear that no organic retail adoption had been achieved by the industry so far. To be clear to date it is still completely open how identity and wallet naming will find a market fit capable of scaling beyond niche. I am not negating potential, I am just saying we are many years away from mainstream utility. Most importantly, the one thing that has transpired in business circles (not so much among ideologues) is that web3 domains will never compete with DNS in terms of websites. Not even AI will change that because humans will stay in the loop (in this case ICANN). So I deeply respect Matt's decision to reorganize UD around DNS to become an accredited ICANN registrar at a time when many competitors just quit. For us investors it means instead of having no prospect of any ROI from web3 domains suddenly there is a tangible business opportunity if UD secures its TLDs in the ICANN auctions. Win win. Of course only if the holders of web3 twins are granted the right of first refusal, free of charge! I do understand the recent complaints around the changes made on UD’s website concerning web3 visibility. Alas, there was no prior communication which lead to people believing that Matt was abandoning web3. Despite UD’s business focus on web2 we are still in a transition period until after the ICANN auctions. So for the next 2 years (or so) there will be a lot of speculative trading of TLDs with DNS potential as the $50k trade of id.agent and the declined $50k bid on ai.agent prominently prove. So keeping web3 management live is important imo. So there you have it, that’s my take on „The Pivot“. I’m exited for the future of DNS and if Matt can pivot so can I. Onwards!

Stefan, I agree with all points. Nevertheless, look at this, for example: domainnamewire.com/2026/03/19/web… quote: "While they can take issue with how Unstoppable pitched these names [...]". Loyal customers can expect professionalism in corporate communication as well as ethical approaches and decency. Not all of us can follow all tech bro talks or X spaces. Lots of us were just trying to invest in quality names without being a .tld maximalist. UD needs more professional corporate communication. Can only refer to this one more time:

i asked @ntropiq in person in front of a room of people at @ishmilly last Domainer Expo in Las Vegas if .crypto domains would have a premium or a renewal fee if it becomes an ICANN TLD and he said they would be grandfathered in and no renewals forever for all that have already been purchased.

Well, @mattgould and @sandy_carter - it's good to know that - at the very least - there is no misrepresentation on the UD website of how my domains web2 / web3 domains will work in the future - should the relevant ICANN applications be successful. Clearly, the website informs that those are - as we lawyers would argue - "inextricably linked" . Thus, my ICANN approved tld, for example an .agent domain, will not have any renewal fees in the future. Because you only exclude .eth explicitly on the website, see the screenshot, that means of course, the others are not explicitly excluded and we invested under this legal representation of facts. The combined web2 / web3 domain (in the future) will "retain its onchain benefits" (thus, all of them, nothing excluded) as per UD's website. No renewal fees. UD will thus cover renewal fees for new ICANN-approved web2 elements of previously bought web3 domains on behalf of clients - avoiding all legal issues of potential misrepresentation. UD will - surely - avoid both protracted legal conflict with investors and the severely damaging reputational effects of being entangled in misrepresentation cases (plural). "Yours for life" as the website clearly says. Thank you.

the marketplace functionality was appreciated by the community. It did not require a lot of further resources and energy, just handling potential payouts, both for DNS and web3 sales. Most clients do not question the strategic route. It's not our company, we are just customers. But a lot of people, including me, were upset by the decision to hide web3 features. Those were developed over the past years and worked. Feels like someone told them to do so. Maybe too much attention.

Well it is NOT the case that web3 domains are useless. They are very useful wallet resolvers. But there are issues that need to be resolved, but resolution requires the entire community to come together to set standards. That won't happen anytime soon. But the web3 domains people bought and registered have some utility and some value to those that appreciate this utility. But you have to observe @unstoppableweb from a BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE. They have a business to run and the right decision was to focus all their attention and energy on the business channel with the most potential.

they launched 200+ tld seven going to ICANN .possibility of getting all seven seems lower .They remove live listing and they hide web3 tlds and no sales data and people are in fear about wallet resolution risks and no more wallet partnership?
Andrew Rosener 🛒 🔁@andrewrosener

Well they should and will try to get the web3 extensions they launched from ICANN and likely the web3 equivalent peer will have a first right of refusal to register their domain when launched - just speculating l, but that’s what they should do. So it’s pivoting not abandoning.
