The success of Curry Barker (Obsession) and Kane Parsons (Backrooms) is more of a win for straight white male directors. We haven’t seen a truly revolutionary film or filmmaker breakthrough yet. Curry and Kane are not challenging the system politically or structurally YET.

For $750k this movie looks crazy, but to say they had more money to market it because of that is simply not true as it was purchased for 15million.

@reasonlfg Obsession can afford more marketing budget because the movie only cost 750k and already has built in Hype behind the director and film. A lil similar for Backrooms. Boots and boosters is a less proven risk for a studio. This is why filmmakers need to build their audiences

Not a single person I've heard talk about Obsession knew anything about Curry Barker before this film.
I Love Boosters is Boots Riley's 2nd film. He's a musician and has been famous longer than Curry Barker has been alive.
