@KrystallizeYT Drawing hentai literally is a form of expression no different than any other art form. People disagreeing with that have lost the plot and are goalpost moving with the whole "Art influences the viewer, except when it makes them horny" argument. It's delusional.

@Doubled_dbld That just sounds like imposter syndrome. You're not supposed to be better than everyone else before you can accept money, it's really hard to have a completely unique style anyway, just do your thing and don't overthink too much :3

@KrystallizeYT My artstyle is not really unique enough for people to specifically chose me, there's also budget and time concern I wouldn't think working with me is some kind of privilege for my clients, having too much ego will make me entitled😔

Genuinely I have no confidence in commercializing my work in just drawing format Because no matter how I sees it my drawing skills and results are inferior to my peers, and just a bore So doing game is helping my confidence in delivering product somewhat

@SolarisFR You can reply if you feel like you wanna have the last word, but I wont. I wanted to discuss metrics to rate a game and you seem to be more focused on showing off your elitism. Thanks for taking your time to reply tho.

All I see is Anecdotal evidence regarding the ER critique (although I agree with some) and a whole bunch of nothing. You rate a game based on your own metric, claiming to be objective and this whole thread is only there so you can shit on everything that is widely loved. You can't even throw any game into the discussion yourself because that would just leave you wide open for the criticism you put on the games mentioned.

"To me, a 10/10 game is something like Elden Ring" Lost me there 😅 Okay, jokes aside, you do talk about "the fear of criticizing artsy games", and I would like to ask you if you didn't think there is a fear in criticizing games like Elden Ring? Cause to me, objectively, Elden Ring is a 5/10 game. A 10/10 would be Outer Wilds. Alright it's a very interesting article, though a bit shallow on some points. And for the record I love The Artful Escape, and I haven't yet played Mixtape, but I am looking forward to. So the first question that should be asked when considering what makes a 10/10 game is... On what basis? What makes a good game? Because, again, objectively, Elden Ring is a very buggy game capped at 16/9, capped at 60fps, optimized like shit, with a shiton of reused assets and enemies that makes the game feel like open world Dark Souls instead of its own universe, the difficulty curve goes from Hard to very easy, to suddenly hard again, and ends on stupidly easy, there is no real depth in gameplay or combos as you just spam one spell or ash of war to win, the balance is completely out of whack, it came out entirely abstruse as to what to do or where to go, the storytelling is so non-existent you don't understand anything at all unless you watch hour long videos of lore on Youtube... And I say all that while I love Elden Ring, I replayed it countless times, got the platinum in the first month after it came out, etc... But objectively speaking, it's nowhere near a 10/10 game. Sadly you don't evoke criterias that may either be your own, or the journos, or the mob rule on X, as to how anyone rates games. My definition of a good game is the same as a good movie, or a good song, or a good book, ... It is a game that meaningfully and sucessfully utilizes the medium. So would Mixtape be a 10/10 game for me? Even not having played it, and thinking it's something close to The Artful Escape, which, again, I really love? Nah. The argument that you can get the same feeling watching Youtube videos is fair. Same for The Artful Espace, imo. It resonated deep within me, but watching it on Youtube or at the theaters would have done the same. The limited input you have in it isn't enough to bring more to the table, and it doesn't meaningfully utilizes the medium. But here's the main issue, and the fundamental flaw in how can anyone review a game: Can you objectively say that this is like a 2 or 3/10 game while also saying it's very well made, worth your time, has a good story, looks good, good adventure, and everything? You can't poorly rate a game that's fun to play and well made because objectively it's barely even a game. Like if they released the Lord of the Rings movies on Steam and called them games when all you did was watch... They would both be awful shitty games and definitely worth to buy and... "play". So maybe it's a 10/10 entertainment value (which doesn't mean it's meant for everyone). But a 2/10 game. I guess the bottom line that journos aren't objective anyway, and they're really advertisers.

OPINION: Is Mixtape REALLY a 10/10 game? We break down the cultural divide~ In our latest editorial, we discuss if Mixtape truly is a generational-level game according to other sites or reviewers, and how it ends up feeling like a product clinging to misguided 90s nostalgia.

Nice Strawman you got there. ER has flaws just like EVERY MEDIUM, perfection hasn't been achieved in any way or form. I was just offering an alternative way to rate a game. You can cry about casuals only playing the most hyped games, but even those got to their hype through something, and that's often just beeing a damn good game. How can you explain that COD hasn't been relevant in years while Balatro, Hollow Knight, Neon White, Isaac, etc. have shaped how casuals view indiegames. Your difficulty critique of ER is also kind of stupid if you think about all the possibilities to play the game. When I played ER for the first time, I used one weapon only and felt the increasing difficulty, ofc if you pick up an OP weapon halfway through the game or get the mimic ash to help you out, that will reduce the difficulty, but that is by choice and part of the design.

@SolarisFR in conclusion I'd say that 10/10 games are the ones having an insane impact on the culture around gaming, every game can be critisized and that varies depending on what the player likes, so talking about collective perception is the only way to truly make it out to be a 10/10.

To me a 10/10 game is genre defining and great even for people who don't love that specific genre. Not in a way like FF16 became DMC and alienized the OG Fans but in a FF10 way where the story made people play through Turn Based Combat although they didn't like it. Elden Ring to me is a 10/10 because I loved the hell out of it, but also because it's genre defining, it got so many people into the souls genre, it has been a topic of discussion for over 4 years now and many more to come. I can't confirm the "bad optimization" because apart from a few crashes during the release window, this game ran smooth as hell for me. The 60 FPS is valid criticism but it just gets overshadowed by all of the amazing things it does. As for the "OP" Spells or Ashes Of War, they are crutches and they're also not easily accessible unless you know what you're doing. Nokron is deep into the game and Azure Comet is part of a quest. The game gives you options, some stronger, some weaker, it's your journey and what you find comes down to how much you're willing to find out, if you look up guides, you kind of shoot yourself in the foot. In my opinion, Elden Ring has the BEST open world in ANY game (BOTW doesn't come close btw)
